My old friend Yakaholic contacted and said that Ling Cod season opened up on 4/1.  I thought it opened in May, but he was positive it was April so off we went.

The weather was fantastic.  Paddling on the open ocean, with the sun shining and a slight breeze against my face was so therapeutic, but we didn't go there just for the scenery.  We wanted Fish!!!

I landed by biggest ling to date.  It put up a great fight, pulling and pulling.  In the end, I got her.  I consider myself lucky, because the mono on my rig was quite frayed.  With the closures, it's been quite a while since I've had lingcod, so I was happy as a clam.   :smt007

Here's a pic of my catch:

Unless I have dramatically misunderstood the regs this must be one of......

1. South of Pt Conception
2. A dive report ("mono on my rig............"?)
3. An April Fool
4. A whole lot of trouble

You guys are wrong....Stu is clearly a poocher, those are gaff marks in the heads of both lings and that is not a floatline behind the boat.   :smt001

Nice job bro, when do we get a shot of the monster on the ledt thats mostly out of the pic?

Dang Brian,
You had to be a spoiler  :smt013

I was hoping to have a little fun, at least for a few minutes.

Not nearly the drama that yakaholic created a few years ago at:

Here's another, with the instrument of death in the background (Art, recognize your old shooter):

And another,

NB,

I was just mad that I had to spend opening weekend fishing Pyramid lake and not out there getting my own lings. Might make a run next weekend weather permitting.

Ben,
The little blue was on the stringer and just happened to slide throught the lings gill.  But in one of the lings was a half digested fish (blue?).

JTF, all fish were taken in less than 50 feet of water.

a hook in thier mouth would be best(looking).....but any sight of them above the waterline is all good! (even if it has a long sharp metal object entering&exiting its head)
