T13 vs. T15

Hi Gang 

This yak newbie is looking for your thoughts and advice...

I getting ready to "take the plunge" and purchase my first boat, and after talking to the support team at OK had pretty much decided on the Trident 15. Some of what led me twds the 15 vs. 13 were the increased deck space, better speed, and better stability characteristics.

In reading the OK portion of this thread I am noticing a ton of chatter on the T13 but not much at all when it comes to the T15. Are are people's thoughts on comparing the two boats?

As far as I can tell the only functional difference between the two is the change in design on the foot braces vs. the molded-in foot wells (pros/cons of each?)...

Yes the deck layout on the 13 is slightly improved, but the 15 still ranks for the elements you isted: 

increased deck space, better speed, and better stability characteristics

T13 is barely lighter, but is a more nimbl;e boat.

I recc a rudder if you get the 15.

I have the T-15, and the only thing I want from the T-13 is the flat foot area. I like being able to stuff a 9' flyrod under deck. The only reason I would get a T-13 would be for the flat foot area or if my storage spot wasn't 16 feet long. Smaller frame people may like the T13 and T11 better. IMHO, they are the best paddling fishing kayaks made. I am buying a Hobie Pro Angler for Clear Lake and the delta. ( 2 more weeks!) I think you see more chatter about the T13 is because it just came out and it is $100 cheaper. Not enough to make me trade mine in. They will pry my T15 from my cold, dead fingers!

Hummm... Reading this thread makes me wonder what a T15 would be like!  I recently got the T13, and do like it a lot.  Well, I can always upgrade later!

How big are you?

we have both, my son in the t13 me in the t15.  I am heavy at 280ish and put a lot of water in the t13 but not much in the t15.  They both are great, but if you are heavier, carry lots of gear, or plan on really heavy stringers then I recommend the 15.  rudder highly recommended with both.

Steelerhead is standing 6'1" and weighing-in at a svelte 185# 

I own both.  I primarily use the T13 these days.  If I want to go up to 15, I reach for the P15.  The T15 is a lot of yak for me.  Rudder would help, but I don't rudder.  I just enjoy paddling the T13 a whole lot more than the T15.

I am 6'3" 200lbs...no issues with water on the T13. I was even OK loaded with camping gear for Del Valle a few weeks back.

The P15 is a ight weight and great paddling yak, but the layout is dated and its a wet bitch for bigger dudes.  The utility of the Trident series is ridiculous.

I have aT-15 and I really like it on the bay on anchor in a rippin' outgo with across wind. It makes me feel very safe. The only thing is paddling directly into a big wind leaves my deltoids really pumped up if you know what I mean.

Well... Maybe sooner rather than later
