Well the whiners in Elk have claimed victory.  With Vince off the board and dying, and my inlaws off the Board, the GCC has been pressured into declining our event contract.

To be honest, its fine with me.  While I loved the venue, I also hated some aspects. I have spoken to the folks at Albion River Campground  http://albionrivercampground.com/index.html about having the event there.  They would love to have us, and they will offer us a group rate.

The upside:

-Easy launch
-No hill
-Great fish facilities
-Good restrooms and showers
-Coffee shop
-Fun upriver paddle
-Safe fishing in the cove even if the ocean is fiesty
-Kid safe beach
-RVS no problem
-NO LIMIT ON ATTENDANCE!!! Woohooo

The downside

-Not as scenic
-This would be in late July.  No August dates in 09 so no abs(we can get Aug. 2010)

So here's how it would work-

Make reservation with campground (approx. $50 for the weekend)
Register for event with me.  Fee would be much less, approx. $20 for tourney

While this area gets more pressure than Elk, I have had outstanding fishing out of this port in the past.

Plesae vote and comments ASAP.  I need to make group reservations soon if I am going to make this happen!

I'd love to go to Albion, it sounds like a good trade off too me.  July works really well for me, Aug is filled with trips already.  I'll put in for a reservation as soon as the date is firmed up!

I can't imagine what we could have done to upset anyone in Elk, tucked away as we were.  We cleaned up our trash, spent money at the store, donated to the museum, etc...  But if they don't want us...  let's go!

Eric-the folks that don't want us are anti-fishing people...its not about our behavior

Boy, that is really too bad.
Bummer.
Well, even if fishing at Albion wasn't so hot, I could see staying an extra day to fish Elk on either side of the tournament.

yeah that is a kind of a bummer.  Elk was magical.  That hill, the hall, all the homies...  One door closes, another opens.  At least we don't have to wait on pins/needles waiting for SBD to scream "go"   :smt044

Albion sounds good to me.

It'll be a nice climate change after Baja in July!

Wow, Sean, that sucks ___!!!  I guess they are done with us after we (you) updated the community center, at least the real residents probably appreciate us, in fact I know they do from comments they give when we go there otherwise.  To me I liked the hill (still do, not saying I don't complain while hiking it, but a good workout) and the smaller feel with the limited spots available, (that's just me, I usually don't like fishing in big crowds).  Will definitely be a different deal, but I'm sure it will be fun.  Well I don't plan to stop diving and fishing there and telling any residents or shop owners about this decision.

Albion river is way scenic. Its a bummer for this year with no abalone but hey what the hell. I am up for it Sean. Craig. Do we make reservations ourselves? Or will you run the registration like ELK?

And change the name for sure. Man I was looking forward to the hill everyone talks about though. Can you still fish there? It's a park, right? I'm in!

We don't need no stinkin hall....  We are NCKA.  We have proven we can feed ourselves better fare than what comes from any kitchen or fancy restaurant, with nothing but ropes and tarp and Hodgemans waders to keep the elements at bay.

That pizza oven was TITS, though...
