Thanks to you jerks, I just had an epiphany....sorta.
I am noticing a distinct similarity between my quest to avoid gopher rockfish and Carl Spackler's quest to eliminate gophers from the Bushwood Country Club golf course (Caddyshack).

License to kill gophers by the government of the United Nations. Man, free to kill gophers at will. To kill, you must know your enemy, and in this case my enemy is a varmint. And a varmint will never quit - ever. They're like the Viet Cong - Varmint Cong. So you have to fall back on superior intelligence and superior firepower. And that's all she wrote.

Another good quote:
I have to laugh, because I've outsmarted even myself. My enemy, my foe, is an animal. In order to conquer the animal, I have to learn to think like an animal. And, whenever possible, to look like one. I've gotta get inside this guy's pelt and crawl around for a few days. Who's the gopher's ally. His friends. The harmless squirrel and the friendly rabbit.

Sin Coast,

don't know you but feel like I should. You appear to be a validated  grade 1 nut bag, I like that. Look forward to meeting you.

It is getting so close I can't wait!

I am going to bring my laptop as well Abking, mainly to download movies and pictures off my camera.  I have an inverter and a USB card reader, which can read any memory card.  I will bring them along.

I foamed my hog trough today to help it float.  I ended up just getting one from Cabelas.  I just sprayed the bottom with poly expand foam and will trim it flush.  I will give it a float test tomorrow.

Banjotad and I are in space 99, and I hope to come in late Thursday night.  I want to do a little prefishing Friday morning!  I have to leave early Sunday for my next set of training classes, so might not bring the dive gear.  The less I have to clean when I get home, the easier it is on me.  I am still undecided, as I would love to try a dive and maybe some filming with my new dive camera.  It does full HD films, although it only does 25 min on the 8 gig card.  I may have to get a larger one.  The longer videos can go several hours, but the HD videos are COOL.

I got behind but have some lures for prizes (lingcookies) and some knockers. I will try to turn out a few more.

We will be a population on to ourselves in Shelter Cove!

Any suggestions on how many lures to bring out on the yak with us Abking?  Is it very snaggy there?  I think my box weights around 20 lbs now, with all the junk i want to try  :smt003  Boys and their toys....

I am trying to keep it simple with one tackle box and two rods.  One salmon/Striper rated with an Abu Record reel and 20 lb test, and the other my light sturgeon rod with 30 lb test on a Penn 321 reel.  It might be a little over kill, but can handle those 8oz + jigs heads nicely.

Do you think my big halibut is in there waiting for me  :smt007?  I have a hootchie rig with Halibut written all over it......

A jerk? Me? Would a jerk have a t-shirt like this custom made just to wear when he went fishing with you?

I was going to save it for GS3, but I had to unwrap it to wear in the Florida Keys last week. Never forget your roots I say, even when you're trolling the Gulf for pelagics.

Cold beer...  mmmm...

Bring enough lead on the water to not be sorry...  I can't imagine losing more than half a dozen rigs.  Bring the free-dive gear - you'll be bummed if we get some epic conditions and you're sidelined due to saving that space.

It took me 2 hours to go through all the pages of this thread a couple weeks ago!   :smt005

Don't worry about getting lost - follow the convoy of kayaks!  Not all cells work at the Cove - Verizon maybe, ATT not...

Domenic and I will be posting some tight directions here in the next few days.

 :smt001

I was at the Cove again today for work - OMG was it inviting!  It was a sheep herd outside, but not too rough, and you still could've been fishing out there.  The long-range is looking better and better and I don't want to get too excited or I'll F(*#$ing lose it!!!   :smt007 :smt007 :smt007

Sweet I'll keep my eyes peeled for the post. With all the pretty kayak colors its gonna look like someone spilled a bag of skittles! A rainbow of fishing fun!

I am close to getting some dive gear secured. I found a few postings on Craigslist for fins and wetsuit.  I am gonna check them out this weekend. If they are not my size there is a dive shop that I can rent a suit from.  Since they don't rent fins that is really my target. Also does anyone (that is coming) have a weight belt (and weights) they can let me borrow? Or I can trade for a custom made exotic wood knocker and some home made knife jigs.

I will be bringing an extra weight belt with about 24lbs on it. I also have some loose weights too.
