If that did happen we'd likely still get some dawn patrol fishing in at least - sometimes forecasts like that don't really affect the Cove.  Other times...  we won't think of those.

I don't want to jinx it either, so I won't say how I think it'll be.  I'll say though that today I was down there on a new job - going back tomorrow too - and it was stormier than I've seen it in a long time...  maybe ever.

Back down at the Cove all day today for work.  Got a few minutes at the end of the day - 4:30 - to drive through Ab Point and the launch.  Even though the ocean was rough today there wasn't much wind at all, and the launch didn't look uninviting.  It was very encouraging to see.  I'm glad this wild weather happened this week, so next week can be so much the opposite.   :smt001

Pay no attention to that weather man behind the Curtain. We fish no matter what and if it is nasty and you dump into the drink, I and my crew will haul your asses out and bring you in no sweat. The great OZ has spoken.

Hey Eric, you can change the settings on the weather.com forecast to show wind speed instead of precipitation. It currently claims 12mph for Friday the 15th.

Was a tournament format ever settled upon?

Here's the forecast for 5/15-17. I got it from the future. Sweet huh?

49NM SSW Eureka CA
Pacific Ocean
05-15-2009 Friday: NNW wind 18 to 20 kt. Patchy fog before 11am. NW swell 10-12 feet. Wind waves 4 ft. Pat gets skunked for being a smarta$$.
05-16-2009 Saturday: NW wind 20 to 24 kt. Patchy fog. NW swell 12-15 feet. Wind waves 4-6 ft. Chance of showers. Pat catches a 4 inch gopher.
05-17-2009 Sunday: N wind 18 to 22 kt. NW swell 10-12 feet. Wind waves 4 ft. Showers likely. Pat catches gopher flu.

I went to the future and checked the latest forecast. It needed updating.

Tournee format...  I know we have some cool prizes - I actually lagged and am s'posed to post some pics of the awesome seat and bad-ass fish bag that spedrcr/Greg got us through his job at Pro Sport in Eureka.  Regarding format I figured on deciding as a group on Friday night.  This is how it'll likely shape up - I'll suggest $10 or $20/head MBF with the pot going to biggest fish.  The prizes can go to other categories like biggest cab, biggest verm...  We can do whatever we want, and I think Friday evening is the time to decide it (over a few beers, of course!   :smt003)  Entries can be a carcass or a photo/video.  I'll have my laptop for the ability to download and review entries if necessary, and I think Hawk will have his compu-gear too.  I'm not too interested in AOTD type format because I think it would encourage killing more fish or fish that we might normally release, but I'm open to discussion on it.  I know we're not game-hogs, and I do plan to release most fish, but I'll keep some too, and I don't want to give the impression that I'm against keeping any fish - that's just not the case.  Unique catch of the day should get something too - like a wolf eel or something...  even Pat's gophers might qualify for that!   :smt002
