Good and bad things are happening here at work at the moment. We are having this forced
vacation once again. The company is trying to get on the unemployment to cover those people
who do not have any vacation left. With thin IOU happening right now with the state, it is not
looking good financially. I guess I can look at it this way, more fishing time. Sorry folks, no more
chicken pandesal and coronas for a while.

good luck to you.  sounds like your company is looking out for you as best possible.

my wife escaped layoffs last week when her company cut 20%
I have been re-assigned here at work...but still have work...
a buddy has been close to the ax at his firm as well...
the cafe down the street just let 2 of 10 go last week...

looks like everyone needs to tighten up, which will only make things tighter for everyone...

I really feel for you Jed, and all the others that are having to worry about cut backs.  :smt009

Times like this help me keep my perspective about my job. As a government employee and a vet I am pretty safe from any cuts (veterans have preference when it comes to RIF in the government). I need to remember those kinds of benefits when times are good and I'm considering jumping ship to private industry for a better paying job.

We're doing the 4-day workweek thing...  sucks for the savings account, but Fridays are a great day for fishing.

I'm glad I waited on that house...

Keep your chin up Jedmo, things could be worse.

I was basically told I will be pink-slipped here at work with the possibility of rehire for next school year.  I'll keep my fingers crossed.  If not, looks like the wife will be back at 100% and I will get to spend additional time with the kiddie while taking on more domestic duties.

Jed -

Hang in there. Having some mandatory days off without pay where I work also. Maybe more fishing as a result.

Now's the time (if you haven't already) to come up with Plan B for your income. Just a good idea to think about what you're going to do if you lose your job or have a significant reduction. That way, if it does happen, it won't be a complete shock and you'll already have a plan in place to start dealing with it. Start the dread resume process early - even if you stay where you are, it's a good exercise to update your resume or cv. It can be kind of a self-evaluation & might motivate you to work toward a job upgrade (when the time is right).

I haven't worked a "real" job since July. Had I been a little more prepared, I could have gotten another job in the same business within a couple weeks. Now, not so much. In fact, the company I worked for continues to slip farther into the abyss. But since I essentially hated my job, I looked into other possibilities, did a training course, and have been getting by with doing different labor gigs, temp work, and even selling a few things on ebay. Now, for a little more stability, I'm taking a couple part-time jobs - one in retail & the other is a maintenance thing.

It turns my stomach to think about going back into the same work as I was doing, so this is an opportunity for me to change directions. Fortunately for me, I have the flexibility to be able to do that. I'll be making way less money for a while & not sure when I'll see "benefits" again. If I had a family & a mortgage, I would've played these cards very differently. Hence, my point:  prepare now for a worst-case scenario. If it does happen, you'll be more prepared than the next guy in line. Don't count on Unemployment - the way things are going, you might just end up with an IOU. And if nothing happens, you'll have that peace of mind. Either way, it can't hurt.

By the way, there are jobs out there. In some industries, everything's as much as dried up, but other businesses are still moving along and some are actually thriving. Despite the problems we're facing, this country is resilient and the ol' "American Ingenuity" still runs strong. :smt001
Well, that turned into a bit of an essay but 10 words or less just wasn't gonna happen. Plus, I don't have to work in the morning!  :smt002

hang tough, it could be worse.  As a small business owner I am currently not only not getting paid but actually paying to go to work each day and open the doors.
