I wanna taco and we're out of rockies, WAAA! How about a day on the coast, beer, fishing, food, and rockfish. Open to any and all ideas.
I only know of a couple of places and their not too productive at all.

Right now is primetime for shore rockfishing. I was craving some RF tacos too--so I hit the rocks in search of dinner. Actually tried a new recipe and made greenling piccata w/capers. It was very civilized hahaha.
I don't fish up north but the south coast has been producing for me lately. All you need is some squid, beverages, a sandwich, and some boots. Oh, and lots of extra sinkers and hooks haha. The weather was incredible 2 weeks ago, combined with negative tides in the middle of the day. Same neg tides last wknd too.
I see that the marine forecast calls for flat seas this wknd, with high tide around noon. Those are good conditions. And spending the day at the beach is always a great time.

It was 80* in Carmel a few wknds ago.

Nice, those are some beauties, Sin. And put a shirt on, wouldja? This is a family show!  :nono:

Guitarzan, wanna try pokepoling one of these days? (no matter how you phrase that, it sounds indecent). Maybe Nor Boy would be willing to share some skills on the Marin coast.

No doubt. I was planning a beach paella; we can poke up some MFE's and maybe a rockie, set a couple of crab traps, harvest some mussels and barnacles and voila!

I once read that using circle hooks greatly reduces lost hooks when shore fishing. Might be worth a try.

I am in for a poke-pole, cast and crab day any time you want.  Those first pics look like you picked some nice low tides.  The circle hook idea in the last post actually sounds very interesting.  In terms of preserving gear.  However, in terms of setting the hook, I cant imagine just "loading up" with a rockfish.  You always wanna really slam that hook on a rocky.

I used Owner light mutu circle hooks for several years with good results. I stopped using them when I switched to a teaser rig setup for most rock fishing.

I've experimented w/circle hooks from shore with mixed results.
They're fine if you are fishing an area with minimal snags. But if you fish a rocky, kelpy, snaggy area they are a bad choice.
For a circle hook to work effectively, you must allow the fish to take the bait and turn with it. By the time this happens, the fish is already burrowed in a hole or behind kelp. I prefer 3/0 octopus hooks and a quick hookset. But that's just me....and where I fish. Results may vary.

The pokepoling needs a low tide, during the day, with flat water. This weekends tides don't look great and the forecast is for 15-25kt winds outside the GG.

I'll keep an eye on the conditions and post a hookup if I go.

PS: One of the best shore rockfishing spot in these parts is the Bean. Also need flat water lest you get washed away.

Bean is a short drive for me!  I've done some birding out at Pescadero.  Nice drive too!  Yeah, washing away would be a bad thing.  Wife would be pist!
