The Bean would be a great choice, me thinks. Parking and tables in the lot, and Ive scoped out the depth by the shore with my yak. I think a hoop net could be thrown from shore too, onto sand.
Anyone try in Marin? Muir north end on the point is deep but ive never tried.

The rockfishing at Muir beach isn't great, but it's a great "social" spot; there are fire rings on the beach and dogs are allowed. We could set the crab gear from the yaks and then do some beach perching; that often throws up some nice surprises in the winter.

Phil, you need to fix your rockfish-season countdown timer. We have 92 days until the season opens! Much better than 106 days!

Until then, we'll have to settle for shore-caught rockies. Here's a preview of the fish that are waiting for you at the beach: http://photobucket.com/sin_coast_shore

Yeah, we should hit Big Sur for the May 1st Rockfish Season Opening Day, and then hit The Cove for the May 15th Rockfish Season Opening Day, and then hit Pt Arena for the June 13th Rockfish Season Opening Day!!! Three openers in 1 season?

BTW--the rockfish seasons are all over the map this year.
http://www.dfg.ca.gov/marine/bfregs2009.asp

-North region is open May 15--Sept 15
-North-Central region is open May 15--Aug 15 (WTF?!)
-Pt Arena region is open June 13--Oct 31 (double WTFx2)
-South-Central regions are open May 1--Nov 15
-Southern region is open May 1--Dec 31

I know most of you are further south, but I know some decent, secluded shoreline in the Bodega area that has produced well in the past.

Same spot I caught this little ling:

In Loving Memory of Mooch, Eelmaster, Shicken, and Cabeza De Martillo

I started kayak fishing to get away from most of you...

I am up for the BEAN on Saturday morning....Gotta go spool my 10' Ugly Stick shore caster....

Think my slammer 400 might work on that rod, or should I go out and buy another reel?  haha

Nah, i'll just use the no name that's on it....

(.........5 minutes later)

Ok, I went out and dug to the very back of my messy rod rack.  here's what I got.  Black Ugly Stick 10' with GIANT Shimano "Custom 7000" on it...Huge reel.

Then the kicker is  a rod I inherited from my brother-in-law the "Golden Sabre with an old Penn 704Z, another huge old spinning reel.

looks like I'm equipped and have an extra for someone who might need a model from the archaic line.

Gotta spool them with braid tomorrow, and buy some squid and shrimp.  What time are people getting there?  Looks like low tide is around 7am, and high around 1, with little change....
