I recently bought a heavily used pram (a little drift boat) so I could take the kids steelheading. I also wanted to have a boat with enough cargo capacity to do some self supported overnight drifts on some of my favorite local water.  I have thought about doing it in a yak as you just can't fit that much gear into a 10 foot kayak.

It might even end up being the worlds smallest mothership if we want to do a NCKA overnight drift :beer2

That pram is sweet!! Not to big not to small. I ant wait for the fishing reports..., and its awsome to get the kids involved.

are we allowed to use the word "cute" when talking about a man's boat?  :smt044

just seems wrong...

Man, that is a great little boat, very seaworthy-looking.  And your refurbishing shows the solid workmanship and love.  Great to see the girls eagerly helping out.

And as far as overnight trips go, I am so down with that it's not funny.  I know zero about steelheading but eager to learn.  I bow at your feet, Master Sean.

If there's others like me, would you be interested in teaching a group class or something like that?

The wacky rope seat is pretty much standard issue in drift boats...not my idea.  As funny as they look, they work really well.

I am no steelie-master.  Those words need to be reserved for someone like J. Dougherty...a true Jedi.  Mako1 and Jonesz are also ones to watch.

We could do that, but you need to remember that its a lot like surfing Mavericks.  You can't put steelhead on specific day on a calendar...you just have to go when its right.

Thanks.  I should get some drain plugs in the mail this week (it takes a special kind) and then I am going to get it in the water.

Really nice boat.  Does it need a backrest?  Would you take it in the ocean?

No..in fact you should be using your back to row.

Would you take it in the ocean?

Yes. Keep in mind its only 9'6" but with a TON of rocker.  Folks have been using similar designs to get to boats on anchor for eons.  It would be a fun little near shore crabbing rig.

Sweet new ride Sean.  I have designated this a year to catch more on rod/reel than in my traps.  Hopefully not too ambitious.

Did you say crabbing?
