Here let me step up on my soap box:

I don't get out often and when I do I'm not all that successful, :smt013  BUT I almost always put up a report, because good or bad someone here may use that info to improve their next experience.

I'm only guessing here but with number of avid kayak fishers on this site I gotta believe there's allot more fishing going on than I see in the Reports.

I do understand the ramifications of giving out too much info.  That's why even I have left a report or 2 kinda vague. Detailed info can be shared via PMs.  I have used PMs to request/give a little extra info and have found it to be a good system of checks and balances on disseminating info.

I recently read the preface to the FullSpeedFishingClub application process.  That group has requirements and an attitude that would keep me from ever even applying but they do mention that all fishing adventures should be reported "even skunks".   I believe that's a good thing, leave it vague if you need to but reports are some of the best reading on the site and I' like to see more.

That's MY 2 cents

What do you think??

Yea, you're probably right...and it's Sunday so it's OK to do a little preaching!
I've been guilty of going out & not posting reports but I never catch anything except a sunburn or a cold!  :smt010  :smt002

I always post a report no matter the results. And, as the previous poster said, it is Sunday so a little preaching is okay. I post because I think the purpose of this forum is to build and keep a community by sharing experiences, knowledge, and current information. Without communication none of that is possible. I just don't happen to post a lot because I just haven't been fishing a lot in the last year or so due to work and family obligations. I am striving to improve on that poor track record this Fall.

In fact I'll be out today unless the Forebay wind picks up like it did yesterday afternoon (darn it)--I like to fish from noon until dusk because the Forebay can really light up in that last magic hour if the wind is low--the early morning doesn't produce the same action there for some reason in my experience. THis weekend is the opener for duck season so it's likely to be noisy with Kesterson just below the Forebay.

Good question, Dale.   :smt001

I'm obsessed with posting, so I certainly don't have the answer.   :smt006

Call me grumpy, but I stepped out of posting reports after the long and blown out trail of people freaked out about "boosting"...people freaked out about PETA...people freaked out about "over reporting"...people freaked out about "spot stealers"...if we're ready to stop all that nonsense, then I'd be more than happy to post reports again.

Reports - good and bad - are what i use to figure out where to fish on my precious few hours in a row of time i get.

I fish nearly twice a week almost all here in Marin... feel free to PM me if you want intel

Good question. Each angler probably has a different reason why they do or don't post every report. And everyone has the right to share or withhold info. It's their choice.

Lately, I have been pondering the notion of posting avidly. There is a fine line between 'posting to bragg' and 'posting to help others.' Part of me wants to post reports w/pics + info from each trip. But the other part of me doesn't want to come off as some egotistical braggart.
So I have decided to scale back my reports and attempt to provide helpful info instead. Granted, I could do both: post a detailed report w/info that may help my NCKA brothers (and that is what I've ben trying to do). But there is still that internal struggle of "Why am I posting this info?" Is it truly to share fishing experiences and knowledge with friends...or just to get some WTGs and stroke the ego.
Yeah, I know this may sound like a bunch of high-horse BS. Or touchy-feely sentimental stuff. But it is how I sincerely feel.

That being said, I DO have a killer report to post from yesterday's group rockfish trip. Can you say ten-member hookup in Big Sur?! With limits of monster fish for all. I'm just waiting for some pics.

Cause I don't get out fishing much anymore.  :smt011 Usually when I do it's with others that post for me.

That sound when I do get out solo....I have been swore to secrecy about my exact where abouts on the delta.

Well I post 95 percent of the time when I go out.

We have had this discussion on a so cal forum before and it got brought up when a buddy of mine post a report a month late after the epic WSB bite ended where 4 guys where geting 3 40lb class WSB a day. Everyone Bitched but you know what happened this year we posted that the WSB were there and Bam like no other the sport boats were at the spot that were not normally here. These forums are observed by sportboat guy weather you like it or not. Thats my .02 cents

"...But the other part of me doesn't want to come off as some egotistical braggart..."

Yep.

Part of it is sifting through another thousand shots of 18" verms, legal-ish lings, and various and sundry rockies. But the biggest factor is that I feel like we have something very special down here. And with the recent closures it's just getting to the point where I feel like I must seriously protect what we have left.

Hate to say it...

lately, I think these online fishing communities are better used to gain political knowledge and strength. Reports are just for fun. More people should be reading up on the MLPA and how it will affect them/what they can do about it. Unfortunately, most people just want to read fishing reports.
May the fish be mighty and the seas be meek...

Hello Dale L,

Since I have been a member, I have posted all my outings regardless of the outcome. Catching some fish, getting sick, and even my mishaps. My reason
of posting is that maybe I can give something back to all the good folks here
that had help me along the way. Lately I have not posted because I have been
doing some shore fishing instead. I am trying to win some close friends over to
kayak fishing. Now that is my excuse. :smt001

As for me, the ocean is all but closed up here, the Klamath is slow.  Today's report: vacuumed and dusted, thinking about buying the Martins Magical Kit that I just saw on tv.  How do they do that? :smt044 :smt044 :smt044
