I'm temporarily not fishing... hoarding guns and ammo for the election takes time and money.

Ha ha...I imagine you are bitterly clinging to religion as well?

I'd post about guns but the only one I have is so little, everyone would laugh.  Maybe if I could get a boar right behind the ear?

But the other part of me doesn't want to come off as some egotistical braggart.

For what it's worth, I have never taken anyones report as bragging and I just like to see and read the reports. So keep em comin cause I love reading about different areas and techniques and seeing the pics!

I usually post my hook-ups but when it's a slow day I am discouraged to report.  I do enjoy pictures reports by others   even if it was a skunk day.  Pictures for me makes the difference. :smt003

Here's my two cents:

I've noticed that as the membership has greatly increased, some of the old school guys have kind of gone silent.  When we were a small group everyone would post and it had everything to do with comradeship (not bragging).  Now with so many newbies I think there is little more caution to share everything.  I'm must spit balling here so I may be way off.   I always post when I fish.  It's a privilege to be a part of this club and posting should be encouraged.  If your worried about giving up to much intel, just post pictures.  It keeps us desk jockeys and over achievers excited about fishing.

Since I didn't do it right off the bat let me compliment all the people who do put out such great posts......

I didn't think this post would generate so much discussion but it's been good.  Lots of good comments.  I think the post below captures it fairly well, it covers several points that I think are pretty accurate, especially the last sentence.

AND, I don't think I've ever read a post (here) that sounded like bragging, success is success. Most of the "Look what I caught" posts just celebrate the excitment of the sport.

Thanks for the thoughts

Great discussion, and WTG, Dale, for lighting a fire under everyone!   :smt001

When I read PK's reply it made me think of someone very close to me...  er, uh..  ME!   :smt005  I've self-described me as a braggart, so nothing new there.  In reality though, these latter discussion points are very valid, and I feel lucky that I have this geographic isolation that allows me to post all of my trips and not have to worry about a flood of people showing up at my favorite spots.  I definitely enjoy the WTG's and the ego strokes are great - I'm focused on that path to being humble and content through brazen exhibitionism (with plenty of home-grown philosophy mixed in).   :smt001  The honor of being able to entertain is my motivation, and the hookups with the membership have honestly been some of the best interactions I've ever had.  Thanks for helping me along the way, guys.  You know I'll keep posting alot.   :smt001

I just wanted to say thanks to the people who post.  I'm a fishing fanatic, but haven't went often enough this year because of my new son.  I use the fishing report posts like a book or magazine, never for Intel.  I just like reading about other peoples adventures. Then again I'll read just about any fishing magazine I get my hands on.

I post if I feel like it.
I don't feel pressure to post, and no one should.
Sometimes I don't want the internet to know what I did all weekend, but sometimes it's fun.
Today, I'll post  :smt002.
Maybe when I get an optio & have pics it will inspire me to post more next season.

I have to admit that when I have a slow day on the water I am much less likely to post. It was mostly a slow season for me so I just didn't post as much as I normally do. Not to mention that my first born arrived this year which has led to much less fishing in general. I'm hoping to get out more next year. I really need to spend more time taking pics because when I do I tend to post more often.

I agree that posting has nothing to do with bragging (for me anyway). I post because I like to share my experiences with others not because I want to brag. I'm also not too worried about giving up secret spots. I just omit the specifics and share the experience.

Decided to stop posting all of my outings  for many reasons which I won't get into. I think for many it is part of the evolution after being members for several years. I think NCKA is great when you are getting started but once you have a group of friends to fish with, people tend to post less. The issue of secret fishing spots is something I used to not agree with but with increasing pressure and less places to fish, I now do not post certain locations to keep the pressure down.Instead of posting detailed tactics, I work with 1-2 newbies each year.

I usually post at least a little tidbit report if fish were caught, but I doubt anyone would be interested in hearing about everytime I stop by Quarry lakes for a quick 2 hr paddle and skunk.

And at the same time success reports and hookup posts here are what push me to get up before dawn to try out new places I've never been.

I haven't posted much this year because I haven't been able to get out. Family commitments come first as you have read from others. I really enjoy reading the posts and pictures from all of you who do get out. Especially from those who fish in the areas that I do or areas I would like to. Sin Coast is one of the first NCKA members I met. I really enjoy his posts and would never consider them as bragging. He is IMO a very good angler, that I for one can learn from. I've since met many NCKA'ers and have enjoyed reading their threads whether successful or not. Good luck to everyone out there. Keep the reports coming, and hope to see you on the water somewhere.
