No late post here. I can't believe I launched again this am for a wsb try. The water was flat calm, just a slight breeze. I ran in to Bulldog on the pier. We chatted about where to park and then where to fish. I pointed out my kelp line from the wsb and off we went. It was really easy to make bait. It was stacked up from top to bottom. I drifted for wsb for two hours with no takes. I decided to run up towards O'neils house and try for Halibut as there was no swell or wind. I loaded up the bait well (luckily I had charged the battery the night prior) and went off to find Bulldog to drag him up the coast with me. I couldn't get to him as he was chasing a big pile of bait and birds. I made the mile treck up and dropped two live chovies over with the smallest weight possible 1/2 oz to 1 oz. I set both rods in the holders and went to my backup rod to tie on a fish trap should a boil of wsb come my way. Before I got that rigged I heard the rear rod going off. Classic Halibut bite, waited for the big pull down then set the hook. Several good runs, classic head shake then up to the side of the boat. I stuck a hand gaff in it and tossed it between my legs. It went off, thrashing and flipped over the side with the gaff. Luckily the hooks stuck and the gaff floats. I grabbed the gaff and played the fish up a second time. This time I stuck the gaff in the lower jaw then  boga gripped it and smacked it on the head a few times then threw it on the boat. Gasping a little from that I looked at the bow and saw the other rod bendo. I picked that up and fish on!. Heavy weight, big runs, both feet over the side rod to the bow. I could see it 10+ feet down, big halibut (like a vw bus) Figured it would be a miracle to get it in the boat. It came up about 4' away too far for the hand gaff then ran again. Next time it came up head first and tail down to the bottom. Tough shot for the gaff. She opened her jaw for a second and I stuck the gaff through the lower jaw. It went off, I held the gaff high and through my leg over it while it thrashed. I reminded me of the guys riding bulls on tv. Stuck the boga grip on it and waited for it to calm down. Smacked it on the head and then wondered where I was going to put it. I finally got the first one in the back of the boat and then threw the big one on top of it and lashed it down with a bungie cord. First one weighed 14lbs 7 oz and the next one weighed 34 lbs 6 oz. I also stuck a third one in the same place and fought it for a while but after some violent head shakes it came off. It felt as heavy as the big one. Sorry my daughter was not able to come down to the pier so all I have are photos from home. Check out the Capitola boat rental fishing report for more info.

Congratulation Sc X factor!

That is a Monster ! It's been almost three years (07/15/05) since i caught my winning halibut of 32.8lbs out of S.C.

I guess you have the record halibut caught from a kayak now that I know of on this board locally.

again Congratulations!
