American River Shad/Striper fishing & 1 Dog later

I started out last night at Ancel Hoffman and paddled up river searching for schools of shad or lingering striper's. After battling the winds I get almost to San Juan rapids when I end up startling a dog stuck laying down under a over grown tree branch on the Carmichael side of the river on a small ledge. If anyone is familiar with this area the cliffs are a good 50-60 feet high and the ledge is no more than 2-3 wide by about 20 feet long. After paddling up and down the river and asking different people if they had lost a dog, I ended up paddling back to him. I noticed he had hurt his leg and was very very skinny, who knows how long he had been there.He wasn't able to go anywhere or swimming back to the other side  so I decided to remove everthing from the deck of the yak. An hour later I finally ended up being able to pick him up and put him on the front of the yak. On the way down the river he sat right in front of me with with him occasionally resting his head on my shoulder looking behind us. When I got back down to where I launched I ended up meeting the ranger to take him to the shelter so that they could check out his leg. So needless to say it was dark by then and not getting any fishing in I would say it was over all a productive evening.
