There were about a half dozen of us early and we toughed out some wind and swell for some fish.  I farmed a nice 28-inch ling 1st fish of the year while transfering it to my stringer.   :smt013  Then a had a few blues and a nice kelp greenling.  Soon my mood was turning greenling and my stomach was chruning as a result of the persistant swell so I headed in about 10:30.  Sin Coast was killing them in the rought water but all in all it was kind of a tough day.

I will try again on Saturday.  How did you others do?
Etienne

bummer bout the ling, but glad you made it out today.  I was playing desk cowboy but plan on heading out friday and hopefully again on the weekend.  Sounds like the usual group of suspects fishing hard!

you were off the water by 10:30 but still saw Sin Coast?  I though he only fished after lunch :smt002

Oh man Etienne. I wish you would've stayed out there with me. But I completely understand the seasickness. I started to get it later.....after I caught my new Personal Best lingcod! It was 36 inches and 15lbs of teeth and fury.

I got there around 7:30 [Pre-Lunch e2g!] and launched with a fellow kayakfisher. Forgot the dudes name but he was stoked about the opener too. There were a bunch of kayakers out today and NCKA was well represented.
Afterwards, we BBQd and enjoyed the day. I had a lot of fun.
The fishing was kinda of slow. Most people only got a few here and there; no schooling blues, olives, etc.
My final tally was 4 blues, 1 olive, 1 verm, and 4 lings. All lings were over 26 inches. The two I kept were 28 and 36 inches. The big guy was an awesome fight. I reallt thought it was a monster halibut because it just bulldogged at the bottom. I almost crapped my wetsuit when I finally saw it coming up with its mouth wide-open, flared gills, and big teeth (I was stradling my yak at the time but quickly put my foot back in the boat LOL). The custom EK gaff worked flawlessly.
All of my lings and the red were caught on the exact same lure: 6" green scampi on a 3oz leadhead. With a chunk of squid, of course.
The BBQ was epic. Props to FishMaster and MGuppy for the grub. That fish was also great!
Can't wait til next wknd!

i also made it out to still water. it was really good talking with all you out there. props to p.k. nice lings. i didnt ad much to the total of fish caught. one small blue and a small olive. but it was great being out there!!!
nice swells and a good ocean breeze :smt007

i did provide the guys with some entertainment though.

first of all. i played softball on tuesday and severly pulled a calf muscle. worked wed hurt. decided that was enough of that and i was gonna get the blue collar fever. luckily no one was there when i made my feeble entry into the water. wheeew!!

but, coming in was a different story!! as i am paddling to the shore there is about eight or so ncka members on the beach. my left leg is totally impaired, my other legs is stiff from sitting so long. my kayak is 36 inches wide and i am of shorter stature. normally i scoot to the front of the kayak and straddle as far forward as possibleand jump off. this time i decide to just jump off the side. leg gives out and i am flopping on the beach like a harbor seal pup in a strong 2 inch surf!!! :smt044 :smt044. i believe it was monsterguppy who helped me to my feet. thank you sir for saving some of my dignity :smt006

to be honest. if i was on the beach watching that, i am sorry to say that i would have been busting up. sorry, but thats just me :smt003

anyways, hope to see you all out there again soon!!! bulldog

p.s. appologies that i wasnt able to stay for the barbecue! havent been giving the wife props with so much work. did enjoy the conversation with the short time that i was there.

I got out on to the water at about 7am paddled out past the north-east point of the pinnacles not as far around the corner as Sincoast, (WTG on the lings PK I should have followed you)  No monster lings for me only 3 olives.  The wind and swell started to get to me so I moved back inside for a while and was off the water at 10:45.
The BBQ-ed chicken, steak and vermilion were great. Thanks for the hookin it up Fishmaster and Monsterguppy. :beer2  Look forward to doing it all again.

PK, you da MAN!  Nice job!  Hope you saved a couple for me though.  Etienne, I'll see you out there Saturday.  We can chase down that ling you graciously let go.  :smt002  I'm hoping to break my losing streak and catch a legal ling of my own for a change.
