Our sister site NWKA has thrown down the gauntlet and challenge us (and the Canadian and Utah anglers) to a Trout MBF derby! You can get all the details and enter here.
http://www.northwestkayakanglers.com/index.php?page=KAFF

This is a site vs site MBF, the top 3 entries for each site will be combined to determine the winner. We must not let this upstart site, which has already pooched many members then boosted about it, win!

Enter and win! - http://www.northwestkayakanglers.com/index.php?page=KAFF

Looks like fun Bill. But at that time of year, we'd have to fish up in Tahoe or downrig Del Valle for a "tailless rainbow. Only places I know where trout comparable to Washington live in these parts; or Melones

Ice out at the mountains may come early this year. ICE OUT means BIG FISH but we'll still have to face those canadian monster lakers.

Anyone up for flying to alaska?

Hmmm ... that smells like NCKA making excuses before the games have even begun.   :smt065

Au contraire mon frere-Lewiston Lake off the 299. Huge rainbows that feed on stocked Kokanees. Rumor has it there is a state record in there.

Polepole- no excuses, just stating a fact :smt003 You guys have some serious sized trout up there and we do have a few places where we can get some biguns' too.

Bill,

Sounds like we need to make this a get together somewhere?

Actually that's a common misconception about us having huge trout.  We do, but not a lot, just like in CA.

As for Lakers in far Northern Canada, show me one picture of a BIG laker caught from up there off of a kayak.  Now show me 3 kayak anglers doing it regularly.  This is about as level a playing field as I could think of without going to bass.   :smt001

Allen,

How about the smallest trout caught? We did this in Alaska and I won with a 1-1/4" dolly. Yes caught on a rod and reel. Released to grow and fight another day :smt003

BTW, this is not a derby between sites.  It is a derby between states.  It started out as some trash talking between the NWKA Washington men and the NWKA Oregon boys and spiraled out of control ... a civil war was brewing which is now turning into a world war.

Looks like we might get some entries from MichiganKayakFishing.com so this thing is spreading fast.

Virtual MBFs are just that virtual. If you guys want to concentrate on an area that is cool but I think the better plan would be to spread out a bit. A group at Tahoe, a group at Melones etc...

I'm going to cut you off there Brian.  I was thinking the CA anglers would fish in CA, WA anglers in WA, etc.  Will make a rule clarification to that effect.  Sorry for the confusion, but the Nevada contingent would cry bloody murder if you won state honors with a fish from Nevada.  That being said, Lake Tahoe is fair game and for the purposes of this derby be considered either CA or NV.  Why?  Because I said so.   :smt004

Interesting how you decided to start the contest after our mackinaw season is over and most of us are switching to saltwater, however I guess you and Z need all the help you can get.   :smt044 All that said, bring it on!  :smt006 BTW, steelhead are trout.
