Sorry for the confusion, but the Nevada contingent would cry bloody murder if you won state honors with a fish from Nevada.

We have a NV contingent?

I am all down for Char and Trout, but they really should be different categories for purpose of competition.

Allen -

Interesting how you decided to start the contest after our mackinaw season is over and most of us are switching to saltwater, however I guess you and Z need all the help you can get.   :smt044 All that said, bring it on!  :smt006 BTW, steelhead are trout.

Scott

Aren't the macks and brown still up shallow in Tahoe then?  Or perhaps at the tail end.  Regardless, the season is year round over there, just need to go deeper.  Most likely we'll be deep jigging for macks up here in WA.  Did you know there are only like 6 lakes with macks in WA.  I'm guessing there is more than that in CA.

Saltwater?  What's that?  I would have loved to have a Salmon Feud, but we all know where that went.  There is also the distinct possibility rockfish won't even be open for you then.  That sucks if that's the case.  Sorry.

Anyway ... I think the playing field is as level as can be with a good chance of seeing some great catches from the far reaches of galaxy.

Why?  When was the last time you saw 3 fishermen pull out 6 nice macks over a weekend. And by nice, I mean large enough that they'd beat the chances of pulling out 6 decent rainbows.  That's the beauty of this ... do you go big, but perhaps suffer lower numbers ... or do you go for the higher percentage catch of smaller fish.  In reality what Bill was saying is correct.  Spread your odds and have fishermen cover different locales.

Best Mac lakes in NorCal:  Caples, Silver, Lower Bear River, Donner, Tahoe.

Other lakes with a chance for a trout/char over 5lbs:  Virginia Lakes, Twin lakes, Bridgeport Res, Crowley, Melones, Amador, Camanche, Boca, Stampede, IVR, UVR, Natoma ( if you're lucky), Topaz, Tulloch, Don Pedro, and who knows where else some giant planter has been released.

Best bet is probably jigging Tahoe.

Brian, I think your list is way longer and better than what I could put together for WA.  Come to think of it, I think I could do better in this tournament if I fished for Team CA.  But that's not going to happen ...

Brian -

I don't know about this year because I am really booked, but next year let's do a giant trout road trip and hit them all. We could do an Abking video thing and sell the DVD's to finance our trip.  :smt044

PYRAMID LAKE. Who wants to carpool?

-Brian G

I'm going to cut you off there Brian.  I was thinking the CA anglers would fish in CA, WA anglers in WA, etc.  Will make a rule clarification to that effect.  Sorry for the confusion, but the Nevada contingent would cry bloody murder if you won state honors with a fish from Nevada.

-Allen

There is a Pyramid lake in California.

Pyramid Lake is 60 miles north of Los Angeles and about 50 miles south of Bakersfield

Yea, PolePole knows which lahotian cutthroat lake I was talking about in NV. The socal Pyramid is best for the skiing LA type person and not a fisherman.

It's been a while since I grew up in Seattle and times have changed, but back then fish and game never planted the over fed trout in Washington like they do here in California. I have a photo here of a 15lb'er caught in Lake Del Valle last month. It's head was really small and it's tail is worn off. Do they do that in Washington now?

Nope, other than the occasional brood stock planters.

We're starting a couple of threads at NWKA discussing strategy.  For WA, I'm looking at the following lakes targeting the following species.  Slim chance at an early summer run stealhead, but it wouldn't be worth it.

Lake Chelan Lakers.
Cle Elum Lake Lakers.
Omak Lake Lahontons.
Lake Lenore Lahontons.
Rufus Woods Triploids.
Skagit River Dollies.
