I use a variety of neoprene gloves, when I actually use gloves. They keep my paws all nice and toasty woasty :) :) :)

You can read about just which ones have been discussed in the past, if you use the search function. It's the little white window at the top right hand side of your screeny weeny. Enter your search term, like "gloves", and see what comes back. You might have to use the advanced search. To do that, click on the cutesie little magnifying glass next to the wittle white window. Lots of other bunny rabbits here on the site have asked about this, and more experienced bunnies have answered them. By looking through more than one thread, you can best determine which glove is going to best work for your little pawsy wawsies.

All snuggly buggly yours!
Scott

IN ADDITION, in reply to MY question, I got allot of good new suggestions on the same subject from some knowledgeable people who didn't feel the need to make their posts so pointed and abrupt when giving a newbie advice.

I ran it through an abruptness and pointedness filter. All betty now !!

Good question.
My last outing only my index fingers were getting cold. I was using neoprene gloves. Then I realized thay they were cold because they were the only fingers I could feel. :smt044
I could feel the water sloshing inside of the gloves. Not what I wanted.
I would warm them by sticking my fingers in my mouth for a brief period. Just glad I wasn't using live bait. :smt002
I have been researching different gloves and it seems that Seal Skinz get the best waterproof rating although some say they do not last as long as they should.
I may have to come up with something to fit between a glove and sleeve to keep my arm dry and to keep water from seeping into the cuff of the glove via my sleeve when it is raining.I also want to be able to easily remove the glove for knot tying and then easily put it back on.
Waterproofness and wind resistance are most important in keeping your hands warm.

Dude~

I am sure you will find out very soon that we definitely do not roll like that!
I did a search of gloves and got a TON of info.
When you do a search, especially a very general search, do it from the main forum page. This will search all the forums. If you are in a particular forum and do a search it will only search that forum.
Everyone here is very helpful. If you are having difficulty finding something, just ask how and you will get a ton of great responses

Tote,

You were out in pretty unusual conditions. I can see needing 3 mm or 5 mm gloves for fishing in snow storms.

shawn,

Dale got all mad at me for posting that you should use the search function, even though I included links to FIVE threads on gloves. Apparently it was too abrupt and pointed. I then removed the offensive post, and made a much friendlier post that didn't have the offensive links.  In the friendly post, I suggested that you may have to use the advanced search feature, and even mentioned how to use it. I tried to be as slow and dull (the opposite of abrupt and pointed, right?) as I could.  Apparently that isn't helpful enough, so let's try it again:

Click on advanced search
Type in your search term - "gloves"
MAKE NO OTHER CHANGES !!! You want to search all forums, all dates, all users.
Now click on the "search" button
Take a look at some of the higher rated topics that return. In my defense, I have to say that there is more than "nothing". What you were probably doing, was searching within a particular forum. So searching for "gloves" within general talk may not get you any results.

P.S. You called me a smartass. Dale may tell you that you are being abrupt and pointed, so watch out :)

P.P.S. But you are correct. I am a smartass.

I didn't think anybody was being a smartass. The same questions get asked so many times. The only problem sometimes is that some subjects get buried within the thread of a different subject.

Anyway, I picked up a pair of the O'Neill surfing gloves at Aquan. The gloves allow me to keep a good (non-death) grip on the paddle. They do provide some protection from the cold, but I don't expect much of it  because they're not particularly padded (which I wanted to avoid).

I used to go with the neoprene gloves I dive with but I realized last year that while wet and underwater they keep you fairly warm but wet and in the air they keep you fairly cold. The wind blows right through them. I have not found anything perfect for me yet but I use a combination of paddling gloves (light weight, no cold protection, doesn't restrict, once wet will get cold- for everyday use), waterskiing gloves (heavier usually has a wind proof outer coating, a bit restrictive decent protection even when wet - for colder weather) and snowskiing gloves (heavy duty, wind proof outer layers, waterproof, totally restrictive, can paddle but fishing isn't easy, very warm - this is for the dead of winter paddling).

Like everything else in this sport try a lot of things and figure out what works for you. Call me crazy but I have been known to paddle in a 7mm wet suit, usually when heading out to freedive but there are people out there (not really here on this site that i know of) that would tell you a person cannot for any reason paddle in a 7mm suit and yet I know I personally have done it. Go figure. :smt102

 hey Shawn,
I dont think you are a "retard" for asking a question about keeping warm.
Things evolve quickly and the posts may be outdated.

Yes, you are correct, Thornley IS a smart-ass, but there is a HEAVY accent on the smart, wicked smart in my opinion and he knows more than a few things about kayaking.

Now Tote is another matter. Take a shot at this man and you will find a stealth flavored tarpon140 coming at you mid-ship at warp factor 11. Im sure that there will be more than a few others yaks headed your way too, just not as fast.

My point is that things are easily misinterpreted in this form of communication. I was recently critisized for harsh, and what I thought was funny, comments reguarding a paddlers skill or EXTREME lack there of. I believe by the same character(s) that were offended by Thornley.
This is a fantastic group of people and the only way to truly recognize this is to get out there and paddle/fish with them.
Is it possible that the recently offended, sensitive new age guys (SNAGS) are new here and maybe havent had the opportunity to fish with the NCKA folks? or maybe havnt been on the board long enough to know the true nature of those who post frequently? People here want to help, those who dont contribute are banished from the land by papaB.

Anyway Shawn, sorry about the soapbox, the winter makes me crazy. Here are the gloves I use. They do the job and have the bonus of looking like part of a superhero costume.
Staying warm = staying happy in my book.

see you on the water

Hey Hydro,

Who makes the gloves that you have on in that pic? They look super kick ass.

Part of the super kick ass look may come from the super kick ass hand inside, but they are an Oneil product.  These are on the first link that Thornley posted in this thread.
