Anyone down for a San Pablo dino hunt on Saturday... potentially a trip to the honey hole (weather permitting of course)?

The rain this week is good... the tide on Saturday is Huge... 8.78 feet of total tide movement with a -1.53 foot bottom... hold onto your socks! You'll be hard pressed to see the bay drained farther than it will be drained on Saturday's low tide.

If the rain causes the water temp raise a little bit, that'll also be a good thing to get the dinos more active.

Right now the forecast is for calm winds up to 5 kt.

Figure a launch around 9:30-ish and off the water around 3-ish to prevent a mudfest.

Hmmm, I am going to try to make this...where is the launch spot? I have my Kayak at a dock on the Petaluma river east of HWY 37, is the "honey hole" near there?

Hey Erik,

I'm in.  I'll probably be launching from Bullhead a little earlier in the morning, say 7ish and leaving a little earlier in the afternoon...

Adam, a guy from work went out on a PB last Saturday and fished just south of where we were in the Monty... he lost his virginity by boating a 65-incher on grass shrimp and eel.  How much does that suck?  I told him next time to try fishing from his kayak instead... like a real man.  Then he promptly thumped me (he's 6'5", 300+... I may be an inch taller, but he's got me by sixty pounds easy) so now I have to paddle with a broken arm!

Anyway, looking forward to it, hope the wind stays down.

Google China Camp State Park        Bullhead Flats is 5min.north of the C.C.S.P. it is a pay$lot also.
All the gates open at the same time in that area.
If you get to ChinaCamp before the hikers/bikers there is a free lot that holds about 8 cars, but you will have to u/l your stuff, then park your VEH. up the hill in that lot...or pay$ and do it the easy way.
** Bullhead flats hold a little more water when returning on the low-tide side.
** ChinaCamp will drain faster, leaving you with 100yrds. of MUD to push/pull through (low-tide).

I prefer to launch right at the main beach at China Camp... so that's where I'll be going out from.

I've actually felt that the main beach at china camp muds out a little later than bull head flat.  Who knows... I've done the mudfest at both places and bullhead seemed to me to be a little tougher in the mud... the mud seems to be softer there.

Chetbango... the honey hole is out in the middle of San Pablo bay... the area is also known as "shell bank" on the fishing maps... about 1.5 miles north and east of china camp... between the pumphouse and the duck blinds.

Petaluma river mouth is good for fishing an incoming tide... the dinos move up into the shallows as the tide comes up... oftentimes the fishing is good in only 3 or 4 feet of water.

I don't care where we launch or how much mud we walk through as long as we meet on the water somewhere and form a nice little gauntlet for the sturgeon to deal with.  :smt003

Read this ==>  http://www.norcalkayakanglers.com/index.php?page=14

You can buy grass or ghost shrimp at Loch Lomond Marina or Western Boat.

(search the forum for more on those bait shops)
