Rory-I will show you what you need to achor on Friday.

FYI-A big tide like this can be a little unsettling.  This place can get absolutely #$%^& in a hurry.  Be ready to paddle through 2-3 miles of nasty water if it falls apart.

In all honesty, I think '08 will be the year I finally get a sturgeon, but I'd love to prove myself wrong.  See you guys out there.

That bay rips more than any river I have ever been on. DEFINITELY have your VHF on your person. If you should happen to fall over there is NO way you will get back to your kayak by yourself. I repeat..NO WAY!!!
With a tide swing that big I would be hesitant about wearing waders and go with a wetsuit if at all possible.
A big swing in San Pablo makes the big blue look like a mill pond.
Make sure you know exactly how to use your anchor set-up. Do a dry run on land before you go out there. Make sure you know how much you need to move or rotate your body on your kayak to do it right.
I may sound over zealous on safety here but I can assure you unless you have been out there you cannot imagine.
It shocked the hell out of me the first time and I had been in some gnarly conditions before that.
Be safe, have fun and good luck.

I agree.  I would even consider leashing myself to prevent separation.

Leashing yourself is a quick way to get sucked to the bottom in that kind of current.  Go with a group, andknow what your doing...this place can be nutty.  Throw in a few free-range trees from this weeks rain and its always a treat out there!

Good luck and be safe. Look forward to the report. Got to admire your determination. I would have conceded the AOTY to Chuck weeks ago, but that is why I don't compete. Got some fresh powder in Tahoe calling me :smt005

I'm not een getting my yak until friday, and don't even have everything yet. Think I'll pass. Maybe I'll go to mendo and drown some minnows, or go to clear lake for some bass. Would like to know later on if you guys are planning something else with a lot less tide change :fish Good Luck to ALL :fishing1

Rory:  The lake is a MESS.  Blue Lakes trout would be a good local bet.

Scott:  I can't beat Chuck with a dino...just going for fun.

Guys-

You think it'll be ripping with a 8 foot swing... how about a 13+ foot swing??? Yeah... I was seriously thinking about it but, I'd be solo mio and I don't think my 10lb anchor would hold me... plus, that kind of movement worries me... a little... Good luck out there... I wish I could make it but, I've got a party to go to in the morning...

........I know the bay can RIP like no other body of water and that's what I DON'T CALL FUN!     it is a HOT-SPOT!!, but I'm gonna tuck-tail  :la: and go back to the safer waters of the Montezuma Slough, I know, I know, but Mike/Tote made it plain as day how DANGEROUS it IS, just being in the water under those conditions/CURRENT!  (that's the ONLY THING that will be swirling throughout my brain the WHOLE TIME and THAT'S not FUN for me anymore!  :smt022
and when the direction of that CURRENT goes against the direction of any WIND......NASTY and UGLY.

sorry for gettin all fired-up at first sight of your post Erik  :smt056 , but I got too much RESPECT for the "UNFORGIVING" SanPabloBay when it's like it's going to be out there.

anyone up for a shot at Montezuma Slough?     maybe the warm rain water will wake them the F#$% UP!   andEATwhatIgot2givem'!  :BangHead:

Good luck, all.

Sounds tempting, but Friday is my birthday and I'm sure I'll be in no shape to deal with a potentially nasty SPB on Saturday morning.

Hopefully conditions will be nice for you guys. If I were to go it would only guarantee that the conditions would be fairly decent until exactly two minutes after I dropped anchor then it would turn into four foot wind waves crashing over the side of my yak and 20MPH winds blowing directly from the direction I need to paddle back in.

Sean knows what I'm talking about... :smt009
