Ok after lots of feedback and some lobbying by a lot of people I respect I am going to add back the prize for biggest single species for all the species. With the great prizes we have been able to get so far I am sure we cn come up with something for all those species.

Thanks for the feedback!

I like it.  I like it alot.  Thanks, Bill.

Input:  even if it were only awarded a trophy/plaque/certificate, I think it's a cool data point for many people.  And an equally important consideration is how much incentive it provides for those of us who are too lame to do the 10 species trip.

If we don't get enough prizes I was going to do custom NCKA hoodies. I think that would be pretty cool.

Me Too, gear is nice but Last year I signed up in the hopes of just winning a reel. I was lucky enough to win the reel that I wanted Okuma VS Spinner but I have yet to put line on it, the hoodie would have been worn out by now.

If you run out of prizes Bill, I can probably give the winners tickets to see someone.

Your call.

Dan, I thought the tickets you give only get people seeing a judge or a new cell-mate named Bennie the Backrubber...   :smt009   :smt005

That is the case, but if we run low, who's to say someone doesn't want a outing to see parliamentary procedure?  :smt044

Bill,

Thank you for recognizing the biggest species.  I would never win AOTY because I can’t/won’t do salt water, but I will try for the largest fresh water fishies.

And I could never win AOTY because I won't do freshwater (yuk!).  It was much more fun when every hard takedown could be a winning fish.

I realize that we also don't want there to be controversy with someone none of us have met claiming prizes, so perhaps a compromise would be to establish some criterion for qualifying your big fish, such as attending some number of NCKA events during the year, a threshold number of posts, or something like that.  Perhaps we could have it so that entering AOTY'08 and qualifying makes someone an 'official NCKA member' with stars of a different color under their name.

It might be better to have one deposit that gets everyone eligible for all the categories too.  That will ensure the greatest participation.

Josh has a good point here.  Imagine how easy it would've been for me to fake "catching and releasing" that 45 inch Chinook carcass that I found under Fernbridge last month...  Combine that with how often some people (me) fish solo, and it's apparent that someone could mess with the system pretty easily.  Although I am doing a nude lotus on the mat of good faith for all of you right now (nice visual, eh?   :smt006), the bigger we get the more likely that some fame-hungry fabricator could pass off a powerboat-caught fish as a yak-caught one, or worse...  Outside of witnesses (also potentially flawed...), how do we ensure that sportsmanship really is that?  Food for thought.
