RPT - 6/20 Elk Expedition Kayak Fishing

Paul and Cliff are excellent company and great anglers to share the water with. Thank you both for the adventure.

I think with the right equipment Elk is worth the trouble. Light kayaks, good beach wheels, upgrade your handles. The ocean is rich with fat rockfish. I suspect there's some very good size lingcod too, both of mine were sub 30in but something huge and angry grabbed my bait and parted my leader at the treble. That was a painful reminder to re tie more often.

I got most of my rockfish in a 60' hole directly behind a wash rock, and lings were somewhat dispersed between depths and areas. Whole squid got the rockfish results but big dead smelt got me lings.

I would by lying if I said I wasnt bummed that Paul got to walk up the "hill of death" talking to a pretty girl. 

Me?  I was solo, listening to my lungs wheeze.

I am home and tired.  I got there in the dark(ish), so going home I totally missed the left turn that gets me to 128.  I had to suffer Hwy 1 to 116 which had a rodeo along the way..hahahha..  I think it took 3.5 hours to get home.  brutal.  I stopped in Gualala for a coffee and a sandwich.    still not worth it.  Getting lost not worth it.  Fishing was awesome

kayak/gear cleaned, fish butchered.  big glass of ice water and I'm done moving until Monday.

Sounds like it was a nice adventure. I think I went diving there a handful of times... it was fun.
