RPT - 6/20 Elk Expedition Kayak Fishing

Just checked the calendar for the 6th and noticed that I’ve got my son’s promotion ceremony for Japanese school on the 6th. Guess I’ll try to join on the next one

Due to the bad weather forecast for June 6, the date has been changed to June 20th, Saturday.
Hopefully, we have good weather on June 20th.

You got to check out the new kayak/canoe trailer from Suspenz. Ethan from Happy Paddlin on Youtube just put up a video. It looks awesome! I might have to look into getting one myself. It would work for Elk or elsewhere

Very interesting, however, using this cart would require a second beach cart.  The manufacturer's description stated that "Suitable for All-Terrain except beach sand."

i did.  wind was much stronger than predicted.  that 4@12 was lies too.  we lasted two hours before we both creeped out.    very choppy, very wet ride back in.    i

That still seems nicer than most non wheeleez carts in the sand. Generally the larger radius wheel you have on a "dead' or "tag" axle the better it's going to handle multiple types of adverse terrain. The wheeleez will have more rolling resistance on the hard ground but sink less in the sand. It seems like one has to choose their battles and decide if they want the long uphill drag to be a bear, or the flatter sand beach part to be a bear, and outfit their elkspedition vessel accordingly.

Regardless of cart, he who brings the lightest hull and the lowest amount of ancillary crap wins.

This Saturday (6/20) looks fishable, and we will give it a try.

I’ll planning on being there.  I’ll bring my dolly. 

Willing to help others as well.  The effort will qualify as my exercise requirement. Haha.

Multiple trips might be the healthiest option anyway

To avoid carrying the fish uphill, I plan to catch-and-release tomorrow.
Unless someone wants rockfish/lingcod and is willing to carry uphill.

When I arrived at the parking lot at 6:10 AM, Cliff (DarthBaiter) and Sam (Fitzcarraldo)were already there.  We loaded our kayaks and headed downhill to the beach.  It was easy to roll downhill and made to the beach.  You need beach wheels to roll to the launch spot.  With Sam's help, Cliff and I launched safely and started fishing.  There were a lot of large Blue rockfish.  I wanted to explore and head to the edge of the reef.  The current was much stronger at the deeper water and difficult to stay on top of the pinacles.  I had several good lingcod bites, but was not able to bring them up before they let go of the bait fish.  Decided to come near shore and started fishing closer to Sam and Cliff.  They both got the limit of rockfish, including vermillion, and Sam got the lingcod limit.  I got several rockfish and a vermilion.  I kept one vermillion and gave it to a local kelp lady, Molly.  We decided to make two trips uphill.  First to carry most of our load except the kayak.  The second trip to carry the kayak.  My body harness came in really handy to pull the kayak uphill.  Once we arrived at the parking lot, all of us agreed that it was not that bad and we should do it again.
