Due to the bad weather forecast for June 6, the date has been changed to June 20th, Saturday.

I have been checking out the Elk launch site for some time, and decided to give it a try on June 20th 6th.  Other anglers are welcome.  Plan to catch your PB rockfish.

Anyone with Elk fishing experience, please share your experience and suggestions.  Thank you.

Schedule:
Arrive at the parking lot: 6:30 AM.
Start head down the trail: 7:00 AM
   Launch: 8:00 AM
   Land: 1:30 PM
Head up the trail: 2:00 PM...

Parking Location: https://maps.app.goo.gl/rGCttoxYNBRCfzSe9  across from Elk Store

Beach Trail: 0.5 miles, 135-foot elevation change

Recommendation: Light kayak, beach cart, plan to make two trips if you want to keep your fish.

We will make the go/no-go decision by Noon, Wed, June 17th, 2026.
Backup date: June 20th, 2026

See the attached photos for additional details.

I do like blue, or maybe pink cake.    never been to a baby shower and makes no sense to start now.   penciling it in...!!  I'll start saving $$ for gas now.  hahahah

Also, you need to start building additional leg muscles to carry the kayak back uphill.  We might find several abandoned kayaks after our fishing trip.

yeah that hill is pretty extreme compared to what most of us deal with on the regular.
picture the ramp road at shelter x2 or maybe x3 but unpaved and rutted with deep sugar sand on the beach.

Portaging several kayaks from the parking lot at Hwy 1 down to Elk cove on a regular basis was a no brainer for the late Steve Sinclair who operated Force 10 kayak tours in Elk. Steve built simple two wheel trailers from repuposed bicycle wheels onto which a kayak was loaded and the whole assembly was rolled down the path to the beach and pushed back at the end of the day. https://tsunamirangers.com/2012/10/01/steve-sinclair-sea-kayaker/
The satisfaction you get from doing a good deed is like pissing in your wetsuit...it gives you a warm feeling inside but nobody else gives a shit.

I've dragged back up the timber cove hill many times.  cant be worse than that lung searing event.  I willing to tag-team a heavier kayak if it helps.

I have a kayak dolly, we can use as a shuttle.  :D.   the big version with huge balloon tires.  I'll bring it if it helps us collectively.

if I buy the hitch adaptor I could trailer my kayak back up the hill with the 4x4 truck.

Here's a link to a Steve Sinclair Force 10 video. At 1:06 it shows the carts used to wheel the kayaks.

.

Came to look at the cart, stayed for a badass retro kayak video. Those guys are nuts and I mean that as a compliment.

Even though my prowler is considerably lighter than most of the modern pedal jobs, perhaps this is a good excuse to get one of the carts with the big puffy grey balloon tires. It's been on my wish list, but I haven't been able to justify it with how painless most of the sonoma coast and tomales bay launch sites are.
