Preparations for GSXX are bringing back all kinds of memories of past events - all good!  It's a joy to go through the process of creating items with clay, firing them and glazing them - the people at the local ceramics studio know me and my little items every year.  Cleaning, acid dipping and applying urethane to some nice abs was a little different this year - I'm basically out of abs due to giving away so many over the years.  Again - all good!  Big thanks to Brandi, who came through with a solid half dozen nice ones for the cause.  Creating the Trophy Troughs is always a pleasure too.  The oldgrowth redwood has been thoroughly dried out for a few years in my rafters, sawed into blanks, and today I ripped the two boards to get the trough form.  I'll have them sanded with ends attached, lined in and urethaned by next week.

On the raffle front, I've received a few donations from local stores, as is my annual focus, and I'll put in a few items supported by the event.  Please get in touch if you have kayak fishing related items to offer for the raffle.  All proceeds go to Shelter Cove Fishing Inc. - it's a non-profit that runs the launch and marina.

Registrations must be received by April 30th - any later and you may not get a t-shirt.  If you need the forms, call me or email - (707) 845-0400  [email protected]

I basically did away with the sponsor program, because times change, the community has evolved, and the event has developed its own chill factor.  It's all good.
Hope to see you there~

The roster has shaped up nicely, with almost all returning participants.

Back in the day, we had way more people signed up.  There was a kids' division, a women's division, multiple father-son teams, multiple brother teams (still have a few).  It's OK that it's a smaller gig now, but I do want to feel the collective stoke of as many cool people as I can get!

If you think you registered but haven't heard from me with a welcome email, be sure to call me up ASAP - my number is right there under each of my posts.

If you're on the fence about participating, please consider it at least for the support it provides.  It's much appreciated.

Hope to see you soon~

Back in the day...  The event averaged over 200 registered participants for 3 years.  It was a blast, but some members expressed concerns that it had gotten too large.  I listened and adopted a more low key approach.  The numbers went down to ~100-120ish for a few years.  When covid surfaced, I cancelled the 2020 event (14th annual) and it didn't get going again until 2024.  2024 and 2025 (XVIII and XIX) had ~80 registered participants.  Keep in mind, most people make a long weekend out of it, and a good number of people bring family/a friend/sig other...etc.  So the potluck/awards/raffle/Taco Shack crowd is currently running around 120-150 I'd guess.

This year's signups have been pretty slow.  At one point about 3 weeks ago I considered reaching out to past participants to drum up more participation, but I decided against it.  I prefer organic, and if I want to increase the roster in coming years I'll strategize for that going into it.  I'm happy to get a little more time with the fam and have the event more intimate.

I'm glad you're coming DB.   :smt001
