When fishing for kokes it is my experience 5:1 hookup ratio when using scents vs not.

Even when rock fishing how many more hookups do you get when tipping with squid vs bare barehook jigging?

I think that is really depends on the fishery.

Even though its a pain and a mess, I believe something should be used to hide the sunscreen and man scent.

For salmon fishing up here I've used smelly jelly and it's helped me hookup a lot. I believe that salmon have super good sniffers so is very helpful.

Yes! I've fished fresh and salt. The closer to natural it seems the longer the fish will hold on. Squid tipping is proven, but scent is easier to deal with (especially if you forget about it.) :smt013 :smt119 :smt118 :smt120 :smt078

I think on actively feeding fish it doesn't make much difference.
But if they are not feeding it can stimulate them to turn on.
Group IQ is inversely proportional to the size of the group.

I use scent is most situations particularly if fishing is slow. IMO, the slower the presentation, the more important scent is.

I was offshore in about 45 feet of water in my yak with two others along. I dropped in a hex bar with scent and caught a Blue on my first, second and fourth jig drops. On my third drop I got a greenling. This continued on to the point of inside of two hours I caught 11 fish. Blues, Greenling, Vermilion, Ling Cod, Kelp Bass and assorted Gopher RF. The other two guys - guy 1: 1 blue. Guy 2: 1 underling. They were not using scent.

Yes, scent matters. At least that day, that locale.

Or maybe you were just a better or Luckier Fisherman that Day. You should have shared and then checked out the result.

I think scent is one of the factors that can result in more fish.  I even use scent sometimes injected into whole squids.

Mickfish, you know I got some grief for not sharing.  :smt010
But I had some lures (lead head grub and hex bars) that had been treated with scent days before in one of my Tupperware type containers in my gear bag. I did not have any scent with me to share.

Were you all three fishing in the same manner, same depth, same weight, same test line, etc?

I would believe scent comes into the equation, but I don't think it makes nearly as much difference as presentation.  I feel the same way about color.

Fish will eat a bare hook or unpainted plug if it's presented right.
