What is the difference between boat limits and sharing your catches with a friend your fishing with in a kayak?  Say you launch together, same place, same time, even carpooled up there and back.

Quote
...
(4) Upon completion of a fishing trip aboard a vessel, each licensed angler or person otherwise authorized to sport fish may not possess more than the individual daily bag and possession limits. For purposes of this section, a trip is completed at the time a person disembarks from a vessel and individual possession limits apply. Special boat limit provisions apply to persons fishing aboard commercial passenger fishing vessels reporting pursuant to Section 195, Title 14, CCR.

Language clearly refers to anglers on 1 boat together but that's still a better argument than this dude claiming its legal per NOAA lol

what happens if you put all the kayaks together? Wouldn't it be one vessel?
I would argue that if you launched as one vessel then it would have to count as one.  BROPE up everyone!  Time to slay some limits!
Let's go. I got some ratchet straps.  :smt044

Just FYI

Likes are a hell of a drug.  That’s not much of an apology, and the invitation to drop a dime is pretty cavalier.

Maybe boat limits exist because anything else is more-or-less unenforceable.

In any case, if you really want boat limits on a kayak, this is the kayak you need:

Flip side of that is that if the boat is overlimit, and nobody claims it, everyone gets the ticket.

The Oregon rule is a good one.  That's how I caught my first pacific halibut actually. I remember them telling me to grab the rod once they hooked up and explained that everyone had to reel in their own fish atleast to some extent; in California I had never seen it done and thought I was stealing someone's experiance LOL!

Also yeah I assume if you launch as one raft it probably counts as a vessel. Although you may run into issues if you have hobies or other crafts with HID (hull id) printed in each hull individually.

Looks like he kinda got the idea that it's illegal, but reuploading the same edited footage is still against the spirit of the law always, especially monetized. Bummer.

In socal you can keep 5 hali, so if ones really burning for that experiance it can be had legally hahaha

Just seems like such a dumb thing to get this invested in. Like what a weird hill to die on.. editing footage so the poaching is out just seems like a huge moral compromise for a relatively small "mistake" at the end of the day

It's not my job to judge but I cant help but get more frustrated and disheartened about that facet of this story than the actual mistake in the first place. Same thing that kid did with the cohos.  Just why?

Oh well. I cant wait for squid season. My favorite thing to do on a kayak, atleast with a wetsuit still on

I’m betting NCKA could get 100 people together for this, but a 300 halibut day might be a bit challenging…

There is really a problem with the fresh and salty group and their inability to understand and follow the regulations. I had a lengthy discussion with several one time at OP about it being illegal to fish multiple rods there for halibut. There are far too many examples like this seen online and even more in person when they bomb a launch/location with dozens taking anything and everything they catch. DFW would be well served to join some of their hook-ups - a couple of enforcement actions would go a long way to getting better compliance.

Cheers(???)
Brad

To be fair anyone can join that group.. it's a public Facebook group with 10k people.

Not saying it's OK actions, but I don't think it's a fair assessment of these people either. Statistically very few are doing this.

Also for what its worth, the OP deleted the "apology" post too

^ 100% THIS. Admit you're wrong, scrap the entire video, learn from it and move on. Simple. Not much contrition being shown by editing the video and milking a soiled outing for a few more followers though. But as Doug said, likes are one hell of a drug. Any content is good content apparently.

New video uploaded to YouTube.

Guy really can’t help himself.  Maybe the ticket coming his way will change his mind?  He says he reported himself to DFW.  Odd duck, this one.

I’ve never reported a YouTube video before.  Would be nice to get this video demonetized somehow.  But there isn’t an option for reporting “illegal acts”?  This exclusive list of reports leaves something to be desired for sure.

This is becoming a somewhat frequent thing, break the law on video, publish, then backtrack and issue a lame apology. Yes people make mistakes, but this is starting to feel like when a celebrity or politician gets busted for doing something shady and blames it on a drinking problem!
With gratitude and humility
