Well, I was focused on gearing up for Sunday AM ( up and driving before daybreak) but it sounds like you are all mostly bailing on Sunday and going Saturday AM. I cannot make Saturday AM and, besides, I think its going to howl Saturday on the big lake. Good luck. Catch you next time maybe.

And, as a PS, there are big fish in the Forebay but its a smaller water and has a greater concentration of  schoolies so getting your lure past them to catch the eye of the bigger guys is tough. DUirng the last MFF touerney there, I saw a 36-inch plus jump straight out of the water by check #13 in the early morning fog--scared the cr*p out of the Coots and me Never could figure out what he ate--but he was real noisy about it

In the big lake, the fish are spread out more. There are pluses and minuses to that (not even counting the wind and waves are greater on the lake with that long fetch): pluses are 1) more and bigger fish, 2) get's deep fast so fishing doesn't slow down as much as in the Forebay (stripers are light sensitive) so you can folow the schools and keep fishing, 3) not much water skiing and jet skis, 4) bigger Threadfin Shad and more of them which means bigger and more fish  but minuses: 1) a lot more water to search for fish in--a whole lot more--a real mega-whole lot more, 2) deep which is tougher for fly fishing if the fish are deep--trad guys don't hurt much though, 3) tougher to get to good launches for kayaaing--the level drops and doesn't always rise again for long periods (unlike the Forebay whcih stays ina a range because its a buffer for the lake) and makes for yards and yards of muck to try to drive and walk through. Still when its 'on' its 'on' and can even match the Delta for big lineside action.

Darn it, I knew I shouldn't get talking about it--now I am really, really missing it ;-(

OK...it's Saturday morning (5:45) and I stopped by my work in San Carlos...weather is just as crappy as it is in Millbrea  I called the 800 number for the wind conditions at the San Luis / Forebay...the line was busy....well, that can't be good I tried a few more times and still busy.....   Do I still make the 2 hour drive anyway...or should I just call it off.....I hate making "dates" with fellow NCKA'ers and not show up.

Think...think....think......decision made: Abort mission. Sorry for not showing up fellas - I was just hoping for more intel on the area but unfortunately the 800 number was not working. I would have hated to make the trip only to find out that the conditions suck. Anyway, I truly apologize for the no-show. I was really looking forward to fishing this lake - I can only hope that you guys are safe or made it home safe. Hopefully we can get some better weather 2 weeks from now - I really want to explore this lake.

I've checked the Los Banos weather on the internet and it is of course raining and wind are 7miles per hour .
I have been at my lap top half the week and dealing with students the rest of it. Bottom line I'm going. If all it's going to do is rain, I'm going fishing.

For future reference, here's a link I found for San Luis weather conditions I found while surfing weather sites listed on Kirkwood's web page(rain and snow mix at 8000 ft).  There are many robotic stations around the state like this one, slice off some of the last digits of this address and see if that doesn't get you into the whole home list.  If you can't find it, let me know and I'll backtrack and get a better address for the list.

No worries. My wife wasn't quite sold on the SLR in the rain concept anyway. I hope things stay OK for Rickey. Hit some wind on my way home. Was thinking of going out solo but the conditions were unsettled and you know the boy scout buddy rule. I will PM you my cell next time.
