Feb 10 -11 Camp and kayak fish San Luis res.

Was not aware of that...the last time I was there (with Bill), it was blowing at the Forebay and we took a short drive to Los Banos and it was nice and calm. Either way, it's a lot smaller and easier to get in and out from if need be.

By the way, that pic you posted looks like the Forebay to me....

I'd go next week (if the weather was better) but I'll be at the Fred Hall show - looking forward to that event (even if it means missing a couple of days of fishing).

The D-dam is all ways a good bet.. not a lot of people out of the area Know about it.

You got the call on this one. I also would like to fish on saturday, but would prefer not to die as I have some family issues such as a wife and kids. On the other hand, Frank will be there and he can call his coast guard buddies from bean hollow if we get into trouble. We could trooch from the helicopter. Was also planning on going to the show next weekend to see you accept the AOTY. What time is it on Sunday?

thanks for the reality check, but you have to realize you are dealing with an addiction so things don't always make sense and weather forcasts are often wrong.

Detention Dam,

It's a nice little lake just outside of Los Banos, (10-15min) been going there since I was a kid in Los Banos.

I've heard it called Los Banos lake, can't remember the real name. It is a pay to use lake, and it has a nice boat launch and parking.

The Creek that runs across the road has always been there and it runs most of the year, no big deal.

 I have fished both bodies of water for a few years, and make no mistake the San Luis Reservoir claimes of the life of a careless person or more every year. So far no kayak-fishermen, so let's keep it that way. Wear yor PFD! Don't go on waters you can't handle. They still have the safety lights on the San Luis, for some reason they stop using them on the forebay. I've had my best fishing  before a storm front or the wind got to strong. I've made that hour and a half drive only to fish for a half hour more than once. Those lights go on I get off the water. The rangers will make you any way. So do what Sky says...call 800 805 4805.
it will save you a drive. However high winds will keep me off the water not rain.

Sky You ever been to Portal Forebay?

I think the airplane stocking has taken a big hit since they discovered the trout were eating native frogs.
It might just be me but if I was at an Alpine lake and a plane or truck started stocking it would take away from the experince.

No I haven't.  Is Portal Forebay, the forebay to Lake Oroville? 

Have you been to Eastman, Hensley, Success or Lake Kaweah lately?

If so, is the water level really low?

Actually I was joking about the addiction thing, at least for myself. It is more of an extreme hobby fondness. I am pretty cautious on big water and so is Joel  both being ex-boy scouts. All that said, its  time to get this string on track. Are we going to cut bait or fish?

I'll bring cut bait, troll some big lures and jig some heavy spoons at San Luis. I'll bring some LMB tackle just in case I decide to hit Los Banos Creek - just in case San Luis is not do-able. Did not have time to get some live minnows 

Scott, I don't know what time the AOTY begins on Sunday - all I know for now = it will be around noon.....hope to see everyone there!

Hey Janice, I don't know about the others but Millerton is very low. and usually when Millerton is low so are the others. But I haven't seen them. Portal Forebay is above Huntington Lake. You take the road to Sierra Summit.
