I have been seeing the skinny flat fish diving in Ft Bragg.  Are they opah or different flat fish.  The first one I saw diving the white was so bright I thought it was the bottom of a GWS.  Then it turned sideways and I was laughing inside.

So are all these weird species free game if they are not in the regulations.   Not that I want an opah but other species maybe.
probably mola mola/sunfish.  Opah aren't nearly as prevalent.  Don't shoot a mola mola, bad juju.

You hear about all of the PacButts caught out of Eureka yesterday, Rob?

Yes and Trinidad too.  The ones in Eureka are more like 10 miles plus to get to.  Yesterday Matt, Tony and I tried hard for several hours and it just didn't happen for us though Matt did have one on for a bit.  There were lots of chickens caught out of Trinidad yesterday along with a 40lber.  There were bigger ones caught the day before.  I have put in around 40 miles alone for halibut between yesterday and monday.  I may give it another shot tomorrow or monday if the weather holds, but another Cove salmon trip is on the plate for this weekend and  a Cape trip is Aldo ab option.  I'm comtiplating getting to Blunts reef at the pinnacles to try and get one since that is less than 4 miles out, but the weather is do unpredictable there and it is surrounded by deep canyons not far away which can cause dangerous conditions quickly.  Another good salmon, a Thresher or ling of 38" should make up a big fish otherwise I will make a GoPro video of me eating the head off a sardine. :smt044

Yes that's right.  I forgot what they were called.  Yeah I won't shoot it.  They are cool to watch.

Not sure if anyone got any Albacore today but heard of many trying.  Some out 35 miles from Noyo.

I did catch some Jack Mackerel (I think they were) trying to troll for salmon.  Grilled it up when I got home tonight and it tasted like albacore to me so I was happy with that.

I only new they were mackerel because someone posted someone thought they caught albacore but they ended up being jack mackerel.  I had no idea they got that big.  Very tasty and at least I caught something trolling around.

The water is too warm now.   :smt009  Monterey Buoy hit 66 yesterday, 63.3 was the overnight low.  What a strange week.  Bring on the exotics.

I heard there was a 114 pound Opah caught out of Eureka.

-Allen

64.2 the low in the past 24 hours, and the buoy hit 67.1 for a high.  This is fricken unreal.

Looks like it's going to be a repeat of the last 2 years where the albies were not around our water. Making plans to trailer the boat down to SoCal to target them 40 lber BFT and YT that they're catching down there out to 15 miles.

Ya it's going off right now in SD, according to my buddy Paul mbhalihunter. He's shot some big YT in the last week and says there have been more than ten 150+ pound BFT speared this year with tons of 50+ and 100+ fish all over. This week saw 181lb and 183lb BFT shot (new CA record). And these fish aren't really hitting bait/lures.

I ate my first albacore last night.  My neighbor got some out of Newport on the Pig.  They only got 13 because of motor problems, but they were big fish.

They're catching tuna two miles out of La Jolla this past week. On yaks.
