Bayside reported a boat was out for 3 days looking for albacore, but didn't find any.  I'm guessing it was Big Frank.

Monterey Buoy was above 61.2 for the past 24 hours.

I saw those bayside reports too. I am classmates with a young pretty woman who told me it was her dad out looking for albacore ( I don't know if there were multiple boats out at the same time period??)  "Tuna Mike" owns the Sea Angel, a big beautiful tuna boat in SC harbor. Again, I don't know if there were multiple boats out for a few days but he came back skunked too.

I thought Big Frank owned the Sea Angel, but Mikey is always fishing with him.

Straight out on the 03 line its about ~7 miles.  I'm not sure what line it was caught on.  There has also been some confusion on the radio and someone is saying it may be a mackerel.  I'm waiting for pics.

It was a horse mackerel.  There are some big ones boiling on the surface.  Some were caught in Eureka in 300ft.  I was excited when I heard it on the radio.

Is that the Trachurus symmetricus also referred to as Jack Mackerel?

The water is too warm now.   :smt009  Monterey Buoy hit 66 yesterday, 63.3 was the overnight low.  What a strange week.  Bring on the exotics.

I heard there was a 114 pound Opah caught out of Eureka.

Yes and a Dorado was landed out of Fort Bragg.  While the guy was fighting the opah they hooked a yellowtail, but it came off and they couldn't get another one to hook up.  A boat did an overnight trip and scored 13 tuna out of Eureka, but most of the action was 80-100 miles from the jetti5.  The opah crew went 80 miles out for their 13 albacore and 1 opah.

I have been seeing the skinny flat fish diving in Ft Bragg.  Are they opah or different flat fish.  The first one I saw diving the white was so bright I thought it was the bottom of a GWS.  Then it turned sideways and I was laughing inside.

So are all these weird species free game if they are not in the regulations.   Not that I want an opah but other species maybe.
