According to the document posted, even our little fish (greenling, cabbies...) have some high content - I think I should go get checked, too. I just included the map and the species list in the doc below . . .

Blues are my favorite, I almost never eat ling or cab. Lately I've been lucky enough to chow down on yellowtail and halibut, but my test was before the yellowtail, so that's clearly not the problem. But like I said, blues are my favorite and when I eat stuff from my supply I usually choose them. 26 ppm and counting.

Live your life, the way you want to be remembered. Don't have any regrets, we only get this one dance to make it count. Start at your eulogy, and work backwards.

Been so long since I've caught a fish worth eating... I could take Mercury supplements right about now.

Until I started sailing I had no clue as to all the toxic chemicals used on boats. Until I started actively fishing I was just as clueless about the level of contamination in our waters. I knew that nothing that lives year round in SF Bay is safe to eat with all the pollutants from the oil refineries and new about tuna but that was it. I loved eating sturgeon caught in the SF Bay but stopped eating it and fishing for it long ago as there is no more toxic fish in our waters.

Rockfish don't even become sexually mature until they reach 12 years of age and some species start at 22 years, which is why their numbers crashed. This also means they have years to accumulate mercury in their system. With halibut and tuna species the younger and smaller the fish the less mercury is going to be in the flesh. Fortunately we don't tend to eat the livers which is where the highest concentrations of toxic metals are found in any animal.

Mercury is serious stuff with the ways in which it damages brain function. Once you learn about the damage it causes you will be more inclined to limit your intake of many fish species. I shifted in the 1980's to fish that are low on the mercury index and to releasing the big fish that have higher concentrations and are also needed for egg production which increases greatly as the fish gets older and larger as with halibut.

I think you eat more than me though :)  We only eat RF maybe 2-3 times a month.  Trout most of the year, best for babies.
