mercury poisoning

     Big Jim,    Ya gotta stop eating the crappy parts of the fish.    I know you don't like to waste meat, but,,, Fillets only from now on.    Cut out the fatty area along the lateral line which is where the metals tend to accumulate.    No collars, heads, skin, roe, etc...
    If you have the mercury fillings in your teeth, might think about changing those changed to porcelain.
  It all adds up over time.

Question:

This summer I had two amalgam fillings replaced. Within a couple days I started having a brain fog, memory issues and severe bilateral joint pain in my hands every morning. It has slowly gotten better but is still there. I've been looking for an answer, had lots of tests done, but not mercury testing. Possible mercury poisoning?  I just realized that I had the dental work done close in time to onset of symptoms and there might be a connection.

I read on the Internet that urine testing is better than blood tests for mercury toxicity detection of this type. Any thoughts?  I see the doc next Friday and will bring this up.

I remember when the Water Board was talking about doing this testing.  I thought at the time that they would find low levels on the north coast.  Boy, was I wrong.  And everyone's worried about Fukushima radiation.

The lake fish are the most prone to Mercury. At least thats what I think since the water are more stagnant. any opinion?

Depends on the watershed, some places like Marin county have really high Hg levels in lake fish.  It takes some diggng but the results are often available online.  That watershed also drains to Tomales Bay, resident fish there are loaded, transient fish like Halibut are pretty much OK,

Lake county had hundreds of mercury mines in the day. Any watershed around there and downstream will have high levels. The exposed cinnabar mineral deposit will keep leaching hg into waterways. Also any areas where large scale dredging and hydro mining took place will have extremely high levels.

There are lakes with naturally high levels of mercury like Calero near the old Almaden quicksilver mines and the fish to avoid are the bass and catfish. Trout are generally shorter lived and planted and safest to eat from the lakes. Across the USA much of the mercury comes from the coal burning powered  plants. Add in acid rain and coal is the number one killer of wildlife and forests and lakes and people and there is nothing remotely clean about it.

The higher up the food chain and the longer the life of a fish the more mercury it absorbs into its tissue and that applies to us mamals as well. I avoid sturgeon or for that matter anything caught in SF Bay as there are multiple toxic metals from the refineries going out into the bay and then into the fish and shellfish.

With the PCB's we have PG&E to blame. Lots of this stuff with a life of forever was used in transformers and leaked into rivers and lakes and places like Elkhorn Slough.

Nobody lives forever I say eat up, because it tastes good, and with modern medicine and Obamacare, it is not unreasonable to expect to live to be 240 or more. #shakenbake #thatjusthappened #RickyBobby
