Its like gasoline you can bitch about the price but gonna pay for it anyway. What's the point? Go fish.

Best advice I've read on the board all year.

For what I get out of fishing from my kayak in these beautiful waters, it seems like a bargain at these prices.

I do not have my 2014 yet, and seeing these prices really hurts my heart.  After all we pay to get our licences, then we have to pay to play at almost every spot we launch at.

Bought a lifetimer back in 2001 for $490. It's already paid for itself. Now I'm fishing for free @ age 34...for the rest of my life.

That's awesome!  Wish I would've done the same, lifetime license will now cost me $833...can't swing that one anytime in the near future.  Even if I wanted to pick one up for my boys the cost would be $510 each.  :smt012

Just received my new license. It's just a basic license...only 7 inches long.

Some here have posted that they can afford the price of the license, but that's because we are established fishermen. Someone else pointed out that gifting a license to an underprivileged family is to prohibitive.

And that's the problem;

The license to fish is so expensive just about anyone wanting to get into the sport of fishing is going to be dissuaded because of the cost.  Without new blood into the sport, the sport will dry up.

For some reason, the government always tries to fix their budget problems by raising prices.  Take the post office; not enough people buy stamps to make a go of it, so what do they do?  They raise the price of stamps!!  Yea, that's gonna work.  Same with the fishing license.  Not enough coming in from license fees being collected, so what do they do?  Raise the prices.  I'm pretty sure that a lot of people who would consider buying a license if they were around $25 or so, will just fore go getting one and either fish without a license or worse; never start fishing to begin with.

Anyways, that's the way I see it.

As for me, I'll buy my license the first day I go fishing in 2014.  Maybe the night before.  No way the state is getting my money any sooner than I have to give it to them.  BTW, is any part of the license fee deductible on state income taxes?
