And lastly having an AOTY forum section that has some qualification to participate in really smacks of exclusion when one of the greatest things about NCKA is it's inclusive nature and reputation.

Since the 'committee' has voted and decided not to allow an AOTY forum this is a moot point but I wanted to answer to your statement re: "smacks of exclusion". How could it be exclusionary when all someone has to do to play AOTY & join in on the fun is sign up & fish? So now an individuals failure to participate is exclusionary? & if anyone wonders who is playing & who isn't that's what the leaderboard is for. If people aren't posting fish then they ain't playing & IMO they shouldn't be involved in making changes to the game.

Oh Wowzers!, I havnt been on the board much lately, :smt010, due to personal reasoning, but man, it sure seems like I came back at the right time!
Some of you crack me up! :smt044
I voted Neither! why? Cause I think after every year the aoty changes this last year has been the best! I agree with Montana, if it works, leave it! I dont think its too hard to id the 3 differ bass species. Go buy an Id chart then if u cant figure it out! Furthermore, Screw carp! Sure theres tournys for them and "some" people eat them, Mostly in other countries other then America, but really? Trust me I aint gonna complain even if they are added. Im 4 mins away where there are 4ft carp!..I see Ben's point and agree as well, There not gamefish!

Giving Brown Trout there own catergory to me seems like its just gonna complicate things again! And then people are gonna cry and say why not add flounder or certain rockfish, or panfish, etc.
I know a lot of contestants put in a lot of time, $$, and hell, probably even some of there marriages on the line just to participate and join in on the fun but......I honestly think the AOTY rules and format is pretty fair now and DOES NOT favor anybody from any one location. If you cant fish freshwater species or saltwater cause your skills are limited or to lazy to drive to them bodies of H20, then dont participate and talk smack!

Exclusion,  by your own words to be let into the AOTY forum (moot point I know) a member would have to pay money, and post fish. I imagine the "& fish" would have to be shown by posting fish.  (how many you didn't say)

Looks to me like there are 2558 members but only about 75 paid up AOTY members, so that excludes about 2480 members cause they didn't throw in the 40 bucks, then there are about 20 paid up members who haven't posted a fish so that excludes 20 more, then there's 7 more paid up AOTY members who only posted up 1 fish, so would they be able to See into the AOTY forum?

That's what I mean by exclusion, AOTY is a big part of NCKA even for those who don't sign up or do sign up and don't enter fish.

As far as the last part I agree with you, I did make some comments and express some opinions but like I said I didn't vote, cause I don't think I should.  I didn't even hit the "I don't care button"

Sorry for the thread jack.

Wow Dale I can't believe you can't grasp the fact that people can at any time join AOTY & include themselves in the fun. They are excluding themselves. It's that simple.

IMO, that's a point of view thing, not a grasping thing,

& that is their choice to make. I hope some of them sign up & give it a try in 2013.  :smt001

My beef is because this poll is open it may not reflect the actual players. & that sucks.
Salty: Maybe by adding more fish other people might join in. By the way A carp is harder to catch than catfish. And why not change up a tournament keeps things interesting. Would you still fish if there were some fish deleted? So whats the difference. I plan to join probably have a chance in hell. But is is to support the sight and have some fun. If you are in it to win it you might be setting yourself for a big disappointment. Just my opinion and the more that fish maybe the more places they will award prizes to.

Seaweed, I never said I wasn't for more species. I said I was cool with whatever the AOTY players decided upon.

If I wasn't participating in AOTY, I would expect my vote/opinion to carry less weight. But that just seems like common sense to me. Everyone who joins AOTY is a participant IMO. And nobody on here should bitch about the cost--unless you want some pity-cash thrown your direction...if so, I got 5 on it.

What if we were talking about the fantasy football league--who should ge to decide the rules & scoring system? The people participating in the league.

I totally agree with you Pat.  I did ask for people who previously joined or planning to join AOTY in 2013 to vote from the beginning because I don't know who will join the 2013 yet.  Also this is my personal poll only, even the result favor Carp and/or Brown Trout it doesn't mean that going to happen until the AOTY board approved.

Well, technically the commissioner can decide to use whatever scoring system he desires.  A good commissioner will seek the input of his fellow players - much like what happened in baseball.
