I don't think we should put SMB and Spots together. It's not very hard to determine which is which. I enjoy targeting one or the other when I'm out.
While i'm not averse to combining SMB and Spots necessarily, Spots do get bigger, so the point values will get messed up.

Spots vs smallies = check the tongue.  If it has a tooth, default to spot.  If it does not, smallie.

Thanks I like that one as well.  :smt006  I wil see who is interested.

This statement was made. "In fact, carp are an invasive species that are quite possibly the most destructive and disruptive fish in the freshwater lakes and rivers of California"

If this is the case why not target them to rid many from our waters. They do In many lakes in another state. Idaho pays for heads of lake trout. Because they are eating all the Blue Backs (Kokanee). The average size of lake trout has dropped way down. Used to not be unusual to catch a 30lb trout. Now your lucky to catch one in the 20 lb range.

Because that's a regulatory issue not a tournament issue.  This is one of the premier kayak fishing tournaments in the world we're talking about.

It that is the case why is it being changed. Just leave it alone a trout is a trout. Other wise we would be counting different rock fish. I'll see if I can change my post. Sorry if I offended some People here.  :smt006

Some people eat carp; but some people eat bat rays too.  Doesn't mean it should be a AOTY fish.

Carp are not a gamefish in my opinion.

Come on Ben.  I respect your opinion but there're plenty of Carp tournaments out there but can you find any for Bat Ray?

Why not add both on a trial basis & see how many get posted up? & Ben, Kayak Wars includes carp, just saying...... :smt003 I'm cool with any changes as long as it's what the players want.

That is one of the options in the poll.

Thanks for the good find Dustin.  BTW, I have friends who love to eat rays and I do eat them once in a while too.

Yes of course I know about the PFIC Mud Marlin Derby and that people eat rays.  That doesn't mean they deserve to be added to AOTY.

This is why I quit competing in the AOTY. Way too much complaining about what the other guy is doing, and rule changes that "help other anglers." I say leave well enough alone, and stick to a given species on the list. Once you start adding and subtracting fish, you really change the essence of the contest. If you have a set roster of species, year after year, and you are serious about it, you build your fishing schedule to coincide with the bite for the given species. Set it and forget it.
Live your life, the way you want to be remembered. Don't have any regrets, we only get this one dance to make it count. Start at your eulogy, and work backwards.

So Ben, what criteria a fish need to meet to "deserve" to be on AOTY list?

Carp tastes great or terrible, depending on what they've been feeding on.

BTW, I don't care, since I haven't been on the water for quite some time.
