Hi guys,

Would like all of you who joined the AOTY in the past or thinking about joining in 2013 vote for the 2 species above.   I like fishing for Carps since:

- Carps are prize game fish in European and Asia.
- They're edible (I ate them before).
- One of the best fighters pound for pound.
- Help reduce the currently over population.
- I bet we'll see some very impressive entries on the size and weight fronts.
- There're a Carp clubs in So Cal and North Cal (see links below) and they look fun.

Thank you for your participation.

i'm sorry but brown trout is too specific...why would we not add brook trout, cutthroat then.. or separate out black crappie from white crappie and bluegill?

carp? no thanks.

if we're adding one fish does that mean we're removing one?

If carp eat fish eggs like squaw fish do. Yes by all means it would improve the fishery. Is there any limits on carp.

Non Brown Trout Trout?
Trout - Non-brown (racist!)
Other than Brownies?
What can you do without Brown?

So are we who have paid into AOTY not allowed to have an opinion on this in this thread? Who is WE? Do we start another thread to discuss it? Does the committee want to hear more than a single vote?

Of course you can have an opinion.  Express it by voting.  We is me is you is us.   Don't you think we've heard all the opinions on this? Why rehash them?  At least we're asking the question!   :smt006

Neither

but allowing bowfishing might make it exciting.

Before voting I would like to know a few things first. Will these two species be added to the existing 20 thus increasing the available species to fish for to 22? Or will two existing species be taken away to make 'room' for the new additions?

Also what point value will be assigned to carp & what value to brown trout should they be included? And will there be any point value changes to the other species?

& since we're on the 'AOTY 2013' topic......I would like to see an 'AOTY participant/players forum' created & then those of us who do 'play the game' &  'love/hate the game' can chime in. Tired of hearing opinions from people who are too cheap to support NCKA with $40, too lazy to post up a few fish pics for AOTY, but they want to change & influence AOTY just the same.

Here's a bit of context on the vote.

Given the ID challenges with some SMB-spotted bass in places where they both occur one option would be to pool those two species to avoid controversy over ID issues in some cases where it is not clear.  If we did that then the question came up whether we would add another FW species to keep the total at 20 candidate species/species groups.  One proposal was that we could add carp, and Sonny has shared some of the reasons for that in his opening message.  Another proposal was to split trout into two categories - brown trout and other trout (Rainbows and other species).  There has been some differences in opinion and dust-ups over the last few years regarding inclusion of giant planted trout such as put in Amador and other select waters.  Splitting trout into 2 categories would add another trout option, and add another challenge to encourage interested folks to seek out brown trout waters.  We have a number of current species (bass, catfish, panfish, trout, kokes, land-locked salmon) that can be fished generally in warm FW fisheries where carp occur, so brown trout would challenge folks to hit different waters.

So that's a bit of context on the discussion and we were interested in getting opinions from participants.
