Be good to see you again, Brian......... :smt006

I generally use sabiki and rock cod rigs.  There are no hook restrictions.  squid tipped sabiki has worked very well for me.

Halibut is either drifting or trolling.  Live bait is supposed to be best.  I hope to try an FBR.

acccccckkkkkkkkkk.....it's d'Mooch!!!!  Oh, I am off the hook so to speak.......good, I am behind in everything and won't be making cinnamon rolls.......barely pulling off the morning on the water!

Pat

Brian G - I got a box of squid for you today.  Here is a link to a Mapquest map.  I was down there today for the first time to make sure I could find it myself.  I don't know where you are coming from but if you are on Del Monte headed toward Cannery row, make sure you are in the far right lane.  You will veer onto another road.  Take the first right and you are there.

My paddle leash didn't come in the mail today.  Does anybody who is planning on coming tomorrow have any extras they could bring?

That should have been "make sure you are in the far right lane upon leaving the tunnel"

If you haven't fished for 'dabs before, keep in mind that they're small.  They'll be less than half a pound.  I like to use light tackle with a high gear ratio reel.  You'll find them in about 100 feet of water over a sandy bottom, so it's a lot of cranking to get them topside.  I prefer a couple of smallish (#2 or so) squid-tipped, snelled hooks over a sinker just big enough to get them to the bottom.  As Pat mentioned, sabikis work great also.  When you get tired, you'll figure out how to leave your tackle down 'till there's more than one fish on.  :smt003

Wish I was going with ya.  Have fun!

Pretty funny.

With that last post, I morphed into a sand dab.  Maybe it's a sign I should call in sick tomorrow?

Randy, the area for dabs are nearby buoy #4? I need a little more details on the fishing areas. For example, 11 o'clock out of San Carlos Beach until reaching depth of 100ft? Thanks.

Yup, just paddle straight off the beach till you're in 100 feet of water over sand and away from kelp and you're there.

Good luck!

Randy

We will do San Carlos.  I know those sand dab beds and will go armed for a lucky halibut.

Hi, Pat. I wish I could join you for this trip. I will be stuck at work. It would be appreciated if you could share dab beds by posting this thread or personal email.   - Eric

Today the dabs were rather scarce.  The bed we worked is around the red buoy, north of the San Carlos launch in about 120 feet of water.

Good luck.
