Hi all,  I am looking to get out on the water sometime next week somewhere in the Carmel-Monterey-Moss Landing area.  I am a novice Kayaker and new to the area, but an experienced fisherman.  I just bought a kayak and need to get a rack for my pickup, buy accessories, and install my fishfinder, but I'm hoping to get that done by the 22nd or so.  I have that week off, so I was hoping to go catch some dabs or try for California 'buts or something.  From what I gather not much is going on right now, but I saw birds working bait this morning and it got me drooling.  If anybody is interested let me know.

Hope to see many of you out there this summer.  I'm also planning on hitting Big Sur a bunch once the season starts, so keep me in mind if you plan to do the same.

P.S.  Is it Bill I need to give props to for this awesome website?

How is the ocean condition next weekend at Monterey Bay? Are there Sanddabs biting crazy during this time? I may be able to join you if going for Sanddabs, of course, when weather permits.

I can't really answer those questions yet as I am a newbie.  I was hoping that an accomplished local would be looking to get out next week...not that I wouldn't want to give it a shot.  I plan on practicing launching an getting the feel of my kayak at the least next week, but I doubt I'll be able to go ALL THE WAY to the ocean without bringing a rod.  I'll check conditions soon and let you know if you're still interested knowing I'm a novice.

well, I guess i am a accomplished local ! I will look in my Crystal ball........this is what I saw ; the weather will be no wind but snowing very hard on and off all day but the good news the sand dabs bite pretty hard with conditions like this :smt005

It is hard to tell what the weather will be but the good news is if you launch at San Carlos boat ramp or delmonte beach you should be able to get out an fish for a while before the spring winds kick up in the late morning or early afternoon.

I mite be able to Joplin you but i can't say until a day or two out real busy now with tiring to open up :smt007

Chef - What's the name of the restaurant?  Good luck with it!  Let me know when you know about next week.  I think I have a dentist appt.   :tongue7: :icon_aaargh:  and I have to get my CA driver license next week.  So besides that and trying to establish a WAF account, I'm a go!

eyeatbay - Let's go get some dabs :fish :...Chef says we can so we'll blame him if we get blown to Japan. :sign12:

Nomad,

Welcome aboard!

Keep your eye on the "hook-ups" forum.  Everybody here is getting itchy.

Conditions look pretty grim for Monterey Bay this weekend, but perhaps the next...?  Looking forward to fishing with you.

Yeah.  Here is Saturday's forecast
SAT
NW WINDS 15 TO 25 KT. WIND WAVES 2 TO 6 FT. NW SWELL
5 TO 10 FT. A SLIGHT CHANCE OF SHOWERS.

We don't usually go with swell over 9 feet.  Until they revised the forecast to this unhappy bit of wind etc I had Randy talked into stalking the wiley (that's a joke) sand dab.

Today I heard of a halibut taken a week ago.  I am soooooooooooooooo ready to drop a line!

Today would have been nice...I wasn't thinking this Sat.  My yak won't be ready until the 20th or 21st at least so hopefully this weather will become a little more friendly.  I've never fished for dabs, but I've read all the posts.  It has just been so long since I've had something I've harvested on the table.  Had some ducks this fall, but I just choke them down so I can justify the hunting.  I see all the restaurants around here feature sanddabs so I'm gonna go get me some.

Chef -I bet to ask locals(you). How far or deep do you go out for fishing dabs? near Bouy #4?
