So far, it looks like we could stalk the mini-fish.  On the other hand, I heard of a big flattie being taken northwest of Lover's Point.  With this being Nomad's first trip, I don't know that this would be best for him and this is the first I've heard of halibut out that way.

What say you Chef?

Pat

My two cents!! yes, I have heard of halibut up there! they also fish for dabs down a long there.from my understanding their are some nice big sand drifts mix in the reefs. but halibuts will hunt on the flat reefs next to the kelp beds. look at donheny down south!(most of that beach were they fish the halibut is all shall)
diving and spearing a halibut right now ill be a lot easier than hooking one! the swell has been up. but you never know what will hit your line.
the other thing I am thinking about is salmon season coming right around the corner and needing to get my arms back in shape for the trolling. so with that said i still think it is best to launch at San Carlos because we can paddle up then ride the wind back down. tons of good parking easy access.

Even in today's small craft advisory conditions there were a number of boats off otter cove area.  I don't know if they were doing squid or flat things.

Wednesday is looking nearly perfect.

It still looks good for me too.  I built a rack for my truck so I can haul my yak around now.  Thanks to scwafish I have all of the parts to build the power supply for my FF.  I don't know if that will be ready to go in time though.  If you read this scwafish, what size fuse do I need?  Just let me know where to be and what time.  Should I be prepared for dabs and halibut?  What type of rig do you use for dabs?  Should I make my own multi-hook rig, or a sabiki, or something else?  That reminds me...is there any place in this area to get live bait, or do you typically catch your own with sabiki rigs?  I assume having some frozen squid is a good thing for buts and a definate for dabs right?  Can't wait!

Hey all.
Would I be welcome to join you guys on wednesday?

As for live bait, the only place I know of is Moss Landing off this bait boat in the harbor. I've asked people and there doesn't seem to be any live bait places around. You can get frozen bait from West Marine on Del Monte or Casa Bodega next to the wharf. I don't know what it'll be like in this season catching bait but I have seen schools go under and hooked them up. I've used frozen chovies ive caught off pier 2 and those got me a 'but last year.

I have never purchased live bait in this area.

I will be using FBR, 2-4 oz jigs and squid frozen anchovies.  I will have my new sabiki rig ( :smt008 Randy) and squid for tipping it as well.

I will also have rock cod rigs.  dabs are greedy and will bite that big rock cod hook.

For halibut I will have two different types of halibut rigs depending upon the current.

That's just me.

Nomad, you've got leashes for anything you aren't looking to replace this week?..... :smt002

The more the merrier gatohoser.

Typing this as hail hits my window is interesting........ :smt012

I would suggest that we have our resident halibut expert decide where we are fishing.  If its gonna be off Otter point, I prefer to launch from Lovers Point.  If we are staying further inside, then San Carlos.

make sense?  Hopefully Chef will check in soon.

Darn.  Was looking forward to fishing with you Chef.

For the rest of us layabouts.......... :smt002

Yes, the bay looks wonderful for tomorrow but the outer bay/ocean forecast is not so nice, so we will start and end where it looks to be nice.

We will do San Carlos.  I know those sand dab beds and will go armed for a lucky halibut.

I will be there at 7am.  If we are itching to paddle and conditions are lovely we can go as far as we wish.

Ed, Nomad, gatohoser and any others, look forward to a little winter fishing relief...... :smt006

I can pick up an extra box Brian G.  Let me know by 1:00 today if you don't need it anymore if you can.  I'm heading to Outdoor World about then.
