I have been looking forward to fishing this Friday opening day with a double kayak and a friend of mine. We are very new to this and do not have a GPS but I do have a radio. We are both conserened about the weather but it looks like Friday morning might work. I do not want to fish unless some folks don't mind if we follow them to make sure we don't fish in a no fish area. We also don't want to crowd out this event do to parking. Some honest feedback would be nice. Do not worry about saying anything that would offend us. We will bring stuff to contribute to the BBQ Again honest feedback. We can allway fish another day.

Joe, your welcome to join us anytime.  Good that you have a radio, cause its a lot more important than a GPS IMHO.

Study this map: http://www.dfg.ca.gov/mlpa/jpegs/ccmpas/carmellobos_chart.jpg  or d/l it here: http://www.dfg.ca.gov/mlpa/maps.asp

Take a look at google maps/earth and look at the launch, and distance to the reserve. Plenty of areas to fish well before you get to the closed area.  Much of it is well protected from the elements too.  But do some studying of the area so you have some idea of what to expect when you get out there.

Hell, you can probably fish around stinky rock all day and it only takes 10 mins to get there from the launch!  :smt005

Stick with the group and we can keep you out of the MLP zone.

I do recall the DFG checking on us last year (ken saying "I give up!"), but cant recall if it was the opener.

I have a friend that is a climatologist. He told me it looks like a lot of rain on Friday and Friday nite.
Then a big window on Saturday with more rain on Saturday nite and Sunday.

Looks like Saturday morning will be partly cloudy but no rain.

That's all I got.

Looks like I will probably not be going Friday either unless my wife can take our daughter to school. If she can't take the kid then it will be a short launch from Santa Cruz out to South Rock later in the morning around 9 a.m.
Hope to be in Stillwater Fri, but it looks iffy.
I will be planning on a Saturday outing at Stillwater with da boyz

Well, this cold is still kicking my ass guys...  I really want to go tomorrow, but don't think that I will make it at the moment.  Worst part is overnight I think I got ear infections from this cold.  Not sure, but it may screw with my equilibrium to the point where kayaking is not a good idea.   :smt009

So I think that I am out for tomorrow, but going to focus my energy for Saturday.  But who knows, I could wake up in the AM and feel good enough to make it, but that will be an unlikely game time decision.

STill going to go pack the car though...

It sounds like we have some party poopers in our crew  :smt003 I am going to head out there. We'll see what it looks like and what the reports are in the AM. Hope to see you ALL out there early friday morning.

The storm is here. It just started sprinkling in Monterey about 5 minutes ago. It is supposed to develop into rain this afternoon, lasting through the night. Then a potential window of no-rain Sat morning, and turning back into showers Sat afternoon through Sunday.

After a light sprinkle the wind died down completely and it was flat glass here at Moss.If they're still out there the conditions should be great. Hope the Friday bunch post some reports.
