I quote from the the defunct band Uninvited:

I flipped off a cop
a big white cop
an overworked, underpaid, gun wielding cop
he let it slide, I dont know why
I should have died
I dont know why
after all the stupid things Ive tried
I should have died

Just gotta say that I love my Summer job in state parks maintenance at Van Damme and the Mendo Coast.
NOT a ranger. Rangers carry Glocks.  We carry Garbage.  :smt006
If'n you see me at Van Damme, give a wave, flip me off, or ignore me entirely. Whichever you prefer. :smt002

Last week a total stranger gave me a nice fresh ab.  I checked the tag: #1.  It was the first ab he's ever picked and he just handed it to me quietly and said thanks for our work and the beautiful park.
Three days later and I still get a little lump in my throat just thinking about his random act of kindness.
It really made my day, after hauling trash and cleaning heads all Memorial Day Weekend.
The pay is low but with benefits like that, who can complain?

Here's a couple of funny pictures that Mariko and I made, to commemorate that day of the kindly stranger.
(After we had sliced the ab thin, pounded it, marinated it in lemon juice, soy sauce, and good olive oil.)
We were going to cook it, but instead just added wasabe and ate that sucker raw.  Yum.

When I saw that first photo I thought he looked like a Ranger Explaining the perils of Flushing Ab shells to a bunch of Campers. :smt005

:smt005 So far no one has tried to flush an ab, but I have been dumpster diving for misplaced ab guts in the recycle bin. What we dread most though is when as we approach a bathroom that we just cleaned and someone is just coming out, looking a little embarrassed, and muttering..."sorry...I just had a little accident in there...".
At that point we cordon the place off, get out the coveralls, disinfectant and get out the pressure hose...and, well...you get the not-so-pretty picture.  :smt002  But generally the campers are really great, and it really makes the work worthwhile.  :smt001
