Two out of moss!!

wonder how the guys heading out of P.G did...( I am only posting this boat report for intel for our kayak group-I had been invited on this trip  weeks back already or I for sure would have been trying to paddle with the p.g group today)

here is some 'NON YAK INTEL'

the water (from my first ever charter trip/friends invited me) was excellent and other than some large rolling swells looked very kayak friendly out where the charter boat had us dropping..I was really like a spy on the boat trying to learn the method and locations and marking land marks etc..everyone on the boat I was on left with 2 fish(yesterday they did the same and were back in @ 10)...today many guys caught their own two ,once the bite started which was kind of slow at first in the early hour or so...others only 1 (me) and friends they came with,or the boat total,made up the missing fish for those who only caught one(me) ...one man in the group of six I was with landed 7 nice ones...the smaller of my two fish here in my pics came from his efforts..great guy and he was on fire slamming big fish...

My intel  report for us here at NCKA is if I had it to do again tomorrow I would launch  from moss to be a shorter paddle to "the fleet" and paddle straight out 1,--1 1/2---, 2 miles and fish in the huge group or groups of boats that were all stacked around  by outer moss landing....today all day ,any boats close enough for me to watch, large or small ,were reeling in fish...not red hot...but every few minutes and some times many folks on the same or different boats at once...220-300 to the bottom was kind of the range...220'-60' were the fish ranges I remember hearing ..as you slow reel up ---with some even hitting shallow...I saw fish surfacing out around us too a few times so they are on top the water for sure...I saw this surface stuff enough times to make me think fish are around at 10-40 feet some too

I cant wait to See how Pat and the other NCKA guys did on the pg side for sure...but if needed and I had the time I would launch out of elkhorn/moss area knowing now and seeing what I saw today .... there are tons of fish right now.....lots of radio talk to paddle out with too...

the charter  had us using a 4.oz banana weight and 3'- 30lb leader & circle hook -single anchovies...reeling up very slow from 180 or so was where I saw most fish around me getting it on

Just a heads up - the Moss Landing jaws can be dangerous (boaters full throttle heading out and fighting the current when coming back in). It's more like 4 miles from the jetty so make sure that you know what you're getting into.

okay thanks ...I heard from my friend that they will  be over in monterey sooner or later and bigger ones by then too...I know nothing about Moss area...good advice...I'm busy for a few weekends again anyways...I went on Randy's and the Captain put us in some sweet spots,we were cacttching when others were watching and drew boats all around wherever we parked due to the yells and action...anyone with a day off and 80 bucks could turn that into two big fat 15lb salmon easy right now imo....

Right on Craig! glad to here the fish are bitting. I Cant wait to have my chance to go after the fresh Pink meat of the KIng. Thanks for the report

Trolled 6 hours on Sunday out around the Point Pinos Buoy.  No salmon.  Landed over half a dozen lings and a handful of rockfish.

Salmon skunk #1 in the books.

Fished point pinos from 7:30 tell noon with five other yaks, links & blues were all  I landed.  No fleet no samon. I Wait for another day.

Trolled 6 hours on Sunday out around the Point Pinos Buoy.  No salmon.  Landed over half a dozen lings and a handful of rockfish.

I have a travelzoo deal for randys, and just reserved spots for me and the wife this sunday! We would be stoked if any NCKA guys got on the boat, but if i didn't already have the coupon, we would probably be in a kayak 

So far it looks like the weather should cooperate, and be another awesome weekend to get OTW!

Looks like we might have a repeat of 2012 in the river when we caught a lot of fish, but in the lower # range of 6- 15lbs. Last year was a better grade of fish 12-30lbs ( 20lbs avg ),  but didn't catch as many as in 2012.
