Jonathan and I are backing out as well.  Looks a little hairy.  :smt009   Maybe that will bring a nice change of weather for everyone else.  Tight lines to all. Gabe

Wow, doesn't look good for a kayak launch.  :smt009 But I've never been there, or anywere else south of Monterey. So Since we do have reservations for fri might as well go, if it's too bad we can always call it off Sat.  Trout and Bass Sunday then.. :smt001

Good luck in Mendo guys, and thanks for the lauch advice..

Hey, Folks

The game is still on. Camp sites are reserved for you (joining the party). Early morning (~6AM) should be pretty calm. The forcast (Wind) may or may not be accurate in Big Sur areas, since it changes so often.

Thanks for safety advice though. It is still the most important to play it safe. Look forward to meeting you.

Eric

I talked to my buddy and he's still game unless it gets worse tomorow.  We may go with an alternate launch though.  NW swell + strong NW wind might make mill creek a nasty place.  I'm planning more of a 6:30 arrival. (leaving here at 3:30..)  It's very likely to be okay in the early morning, note the forecast says gusting in the afternoon.  But it's likely to blow out by 10-11.  Bring your drift anchors and take your dramamine everyone!

If it's choppy I won't dive.  Bummer, I picked up a slip-tip today and would like to put it to work.   :smt011

No matter what, don't bail out and fish shallow!  Don't even think about wimping out from paddline offshore.  Those commercial guys aniihilate the nearshore because they need their fish alive.  Paddle out past 80' deep and the fishing  gets much, much, much better.  First time I fished mill creek I thought it sucked because my FF was broken so I stuck to the kelp beds (where I knew there were rocks).  The next time out we went out much farther and it was a night/day difference.  You're actually safer in deeper water when its rough, no washrocks around to cause big breakers and wipe you out.

Big swells or not this is my chance to get away from the kiddies and the warden for a little while I will not be backing out Chances are I will leave early but I have to go down there and see.
Hopefully it will be a little calmer early in the am and as everyone says you limit out in 20 minutes so a short amount of time on the water might be the ticket, But as everyone stated safety first and I have to go anyway.
I know we have no woosie on here and everyone thinks safety and thats good
Where did he go george

OK.  Me and eyeatbay (eric) just got home from Limekiln and Mill Creek.  Tomorrow's forecast was almost identical to today's.

SAT...NW WINDS 10 TO 20 KT...LOCALLY TO 25 KT S OF PT SUR. WIND WAVES 2 TO 4 FT. MIXED SWELL NW 4 TO 6 FT AT 9 SECONDS AND S 3 TO 4 FT AT 16 SECONDS.

Just like tomorrow's above forecast, today was predicted to be 10-20 NW winds with mixed swell ~4 feet NW and 4 feet S.

I'm hate to make predictions about tomorrow, but today it was very fishable in the morning.  We launched from Mill Creek to ankle slappers at 0730 and dropped lines at GTO's boiler rock about 35 minutes later (2.6 miles SE).  It was glassy calm until about 1100 when the wind did pick up.  In fact, it was so calm in the morning we could see the schooling blues and blacks by the boiler.  If youve got the WAF and a buddy to split gas, get down there, get your limit by 1000 and get off the water.  I think it's totally doable.

However, one final note:  The road is REALLY f'ed up in a bunch of places.  Anticipate mucho trafico midday.
