Then like magic, I typed NorCalKayakAngler.......seeing local areas, lakes, bay and ocean, I needed in and felt like i just discovered something MAGICAL!
*I don't know how to fish from one, but it reads like there are lots to learn from.

*I knew how to shorefish for trout(and that was IT)
read how-to and went out and tried it.

Adam, I hear you BroTHErNCKAer!

I had never fished from a boat, due to lack of friends/family with boats i guess, until I jumped on the NCKA bandwagon and bought a yack!  I had never trolled, never fished in the open ocean, caught a striper, halibut, rockfish, etc, or caught anything worth while before I joined NCKA!  All the knowledge of this board has *ENABLED* me to get out there and give it a shot!

As of today, I still have no clue where a hot spot is, or have any of my own honey holes, or even been showed more than a general area to fish.  But I get out there and keep on trying!

I guess I don't really have anything to give up, so I guess I'm just not as worried as others are about protecting their spots.  But I think it's possible to post a report without divulging too much information to give away all your secrets, cant you?

Secret spots is overrated, If I give you my spot and you catch fish that's fun if I give you general info on the area and you find your own spots that's what it's all about.

Well said Mike! 100 PERCENT WITH YOU ON THIS ONE  :smt008

Hey Joel -

I am going to DV tomorrow so maybe you can tell me where Valetine Cove is since you agree secret spots are overrated.  :smt005

On other fishing boards I frequent, the "why doesn't anyone post reports anymore" always comes up. And everyone blames it on spot burning, crowds, blah, blah, blah. Steelhead and salmon anglers are the biggest crybabies, and the ones that cry the most, are usually the biggest lurkers in the world, and they ALWAYS show up when the fish are in. The  www.westernbass.com website a perfect example. GREAT SITE. LOTS OF INFO, LOTS OF FRIENDLY PEOPLE. But, every once in  a while someone starts pisses and moans about how posting reports and details has ruined Clear Lake, the Delta, etc. This has been whined about for years. Yet, both of those bodies of waters have tournaments EVERY weekend, nearly everyday, and the angler bags keep getting BIGGER. They set nationwide records for biggest tournament weights ever caught by an angler, and by all  tournament participants in the last couple of years. I guarantee the scum still lurk to take advantage of free beta, even the poachers, but there is a lot fewer of them than we think there is. The benefit to having reports and more eyes out on the water is the scumbag poachers aren't able to rape and pillage the resource anonymously and at will any more. Striper fishermen in the delta are seeing and reporting to DFG the resource rapers, bass fishermen at CL and Shasta recently reported to DFG a big bass and catfish Black Market operation, their have been several big arrests on the Sac River for Striper and Sturgeon poachers, all brought on by tips from other anglers. the real focus should be on the forces out there that do far more damage to the fisheries than a few hundred private anglers and party boats. 1 day of California Aqueduct pump operations at Harvey O. Banks pumping plant ( FISH Quisinart) near Tracy does more damage to the fisheries of the delta than ALL ANGLING IN THE DELTA COMBINED! The California coast has had multiple closed zones up and down the coastline for years, where NO ANGLING is permitted, yet the fish stocks are declining even in those areas, to the point where DFG feels they need stricter guidelines with friggin' MLPA's? Something doesn't smell right in Denmark!

I have never used a fishing report to guide where I'm going to fish, but I do like to see what others are using, so I can compare my tackle to theirs, but I'm not saying I won't in the future. I think the benefit of website like this is developing friends to fish with, and sometimes you NEED fresh beta to have a good time.

If everyone would practice "Limit your kill, don't kill your limit", there is plenty to go around. Now if we could just get the cities to deal with their pollution better...

I respect people having their cherrished secret spots. Everyone should have a secret spot or spots. But so much the better when they are shared and kept between buddies that respect them. Im glad to see this post has kicked up the reports and raised a few other sub-topics.

I haven't posted reports much lately, mainly, because the last fish I landed was a 3" blu-gill at Loch Lomond!  I don't fish the ocean yet, so I have nothing really to report.   I managed to get away to BAM IV this month, but, I was skunked.  Discouraged,  and as I think Als'hobieoutback put it "Life happened"  got things around my house that have to get done before winter sets in.
Bottom line for me is. I don't get out.  Nothing to report.

I launch at New Brighton fairly often. Its a good place to get out on the Ocean your first time. Start fishing the salt and you will have more to report. The season is winding down but if you want to get out there and the weather is decent, let me know. aka-Kimo
