who is going to bring bait for mooch?

Since I had great luck last year...I think I will stick to mooching some bait form Stuart and Fred Savage  :smt003

For the record:
I caught my 27 pounder from mooching bait off Stuart and
a week later, I caught a 24 pounder from mooching bait off Fred / Savage  :smt002

http://www.stormsurf.com/page2/forecast/shortcast/ncal.html

20 knot S winds, 7 foot medium length windswell from 290 but buried in local S windswell.

doesn't look good to me.  :smt010 :smt009  :smt013

If you really don't want to paddle out the harbour entrance, one could launch just south of the
harbour entrance on the beach. for some weird reason the waves are very suppressed right where
the old marine labs pier used to be.

If you launch from there, you might be able to paddle south and out, coming back with the wind a bit.
It's less work than the back entrance to calero perhaps, but not to be taken too lightly.

We could bring surf perch gear and perch it on that beach south of the harbour if we can't launch and
salmon fish.  wear a wetsuit and your pfd and you can kind of extreme float-tube it,  :smt004.

Best,

J

I have 1 site booked at sunset. It is not site specific so I don't know which one yet. I will get there hopefully around 7 pm on friday night. There is parking for 3 vehicles at the site. Additional vehicles will have to park in the overflow. I get one and Mooch gets one. Third vehicle?

I went through Moss Landing this morning and this afternoon.  It was doable this morning though certainly not lake like.

At 2:45 this afternoon here is what it looked like.  With bad timing/skill/luck, a kayaker could find themselves floating in the entrance to the harbor.

Three photos follow.  It looked less friendly in person than it does in these pictures.  Conditions will be similar this weekend.

Yeah.  I landed under these conditions one time.  I did okay, but I don't care to repeat the experience......... :smt012

For folks not familiar with this mouth I wanted them to know what to keep in their awareness when deciding how long to stay out.

these were the same conditions Stuart and I experienced last year = it was definitely one of those days I questioned myself: "Why on earth do I do this"  :smt011

What was worse was that there were many other boats that were comming at the same time - so you were dealing with the swells on top of the boat wakes.....it was like being in a gigantic washing machine  :smt010

Good news!  They have altered the swell forecast for saturday to our normal NW swell.  That means the swell will be hitting the moss landing jaws at an angle.  That means that if the wind kicks up and you come in after it starts getting pumped that it will be getting cut off by the breakwaters and the area of large swell will be smaller.  The breakwaters aren't very effective on days like yesterday with a straight west swell.

Good luck on Saturday.
