Game on!!!  (weather permitting).  I'm thinking early launch in the dark.

Can't camp, but I'll have to do an early on, early off trip.

Not sure where to launch.  Current S wind means it's probably wise to head out South and paddle back in with the wind at your back.

For safety, I'm going to avoid all harbours.  I'm thinking either Pt Pinos area (haven't launched a yak there before) or the hellacious 4+mile paddle to Soldiers Club from the beach.  The S wind is not making Soldier's look enjoyable on the paddle back in.

I'd be leaning towards Soldiers, as its more protected than off Pt Pinos, but the wind has got me a little concerned, along with the paddle.

Hmmm..............

I would love to camp this weekend but don't think I can pull it off.  I'm planning on going out Sunday.  Launch TBD.

I think I'm in for Saturday. Is there a space limit for camping?  What time do you guys think you will be launching? -Gabe

 Hi Yakers:

I'm not sure where the Salmon will be so, I booked a trip with the Stagnaros family out of Santa Cruz. Hopefully
with all the electronics on board we'll be able to find some fish before the season ends. I try
to get some GPS location if, we catch some fish.
I'll be going Kayaking around  Moss landing 04/08 unless the Salmon are south.
Too bad about the Wild Wave not going out! I hope Shamrock will let us use their warf
for our KayakConnection Derby.

Ernie - I need to book a couple of spots on a party boat for my dad and I.  Let me know how your trip with the Stagnaros goes.

Does anyone have any recommendations of party boats out of Moss Landing or Monterey?

No reccomendations on a PB.  But be aware that the MB partyboats mooch, rather than troll.

After Tom and I finished this morning I checked out the southern launches since it looks like conditions this weekend will be similar to today.

Yee gosh and golly.  No launching south of Lover's Point!  Lover's is fine.

The south wind this morning was genuinely sucky.  Though, if you had the day you could launch, drift at no small rate to soldiers and continue to land at Moss............... :smt013

I hope Sunday's outside conditions settle a bit so that we will have the option of heading off Pt Pinos.  I'll be checking Bayside early and often for GPS points.  I've got Salmon fever for sure............ :smt004

 Hi Kevin:

The Stagnaros family have been in business for many years and their new boat the Velocity is fast!.
I went out late in the season when the Salmon were at Duxbury. The Velocity limited out and everyone was very happy. The 35 mile  trip wasn't too bad because of the Velocity speed.
You might want to book early because some boats will not be working this Salmon Season like "The Wild Wave"

Pat,
You've got a score to settle with salmon.  Last year's shaker should be nice sized fish!!!

How bad was the S wind today??  If you had paddled to Soldiers, would have been a battle to get back?

Thanks,
Stuart

Indeed I do, Stuart.

How bad was the S wind?  I commented to myself today that if I didn't pay attention landing at moss was going to be easier than returning to San Carlos.................so I gave up chasing bait and returned to paying attention!

There is a small craft advisory today for the outer bay waters.  Unfortunately, this weekend things could be a bit stiff as well.  Not ideal for our opening weekend.

Thanks Pat.  I was afraid of that.

I was thinking of eating my wheaties, launching from behind MB Kayaks and paddling like a mofo out to Soldiers.  That was predicated on a NW wind though.

How would it have been offshore of Pt Pinos?  Doable?

I recall many trips (via boat), where its nice in the bay, then all of a sudden when you round the corner, its like someone flipped a switch.  BIG swells and completely different ocean.

That's what concerns me about Pinos.  Almost as scary as boat traffic.

Cheers,
Stuart

Stu - at this point, I'd rather deal with boat traffic.....as long as there are people around.....you get more chances of getting help from others = if and when you need it  :smt002

Yep.  I went and looked at Pt Pinos this morning.  Ten? foot swell and large waves on shore.  Nothing launchable south of Lover's Point.

I would guess that the water will be better down at Moss.  I will have a look at it tomorrow....:)

FWIW, I noted a water temp of 56 degrees this morning.
