friends were having a bonfire at carmel beach last night so I decided to drag the yak down after work and see about catching a few fish before it started.  water was glassy smooth (never even got water over the side launching)

fishing was slow
fishin with squid just outside the kelp bed didn't produce much (couple of dinks)
fishing in the kelp beds was about the same.  caught 6-8 dinks before calling it a evening.

interesting thing was there were actually fish jumping clear out of the water out near the outside edge of the kelp.  smallish blues or something else that looked similar.  not sure if something was chasing them or if they were chasing something?  pelicans were feeding around me etc.  was a absolutely amazing day for a paddle.  with or without fish.

I have experienced the jumping rockies. If you look closely you will may see schools of little bait fish cruising (at least that is what I have seen). I have had a blast using a flyrod and a popper. You should put a topwater bait in your box just for that opportunity.
