how does a person get banned from a website? i assume they would have to steal, cheat, or kill somebody. ihope that skygreen wasn't banned for something she said. i never met her and never much liked what she had to say but i am a firm believer in diversity and the freedom of expression. just the fact that people can be banned from a website kind of freaks me out. i never met bill but he seems like a pretty even-keeled dude. i guess i better not piss him off.

Yes you have to try very very very hard. I don't like what happened but when I have to spend 99% of my time dealing with the issues created by one person that is not fair to me or the others on this site.

This is the first and hopefully last time I will ever have to do this.

Freedom of expression does not mean that you are free to express yourself without consequence.  There are always consequences for ones words and actions.  This was the unfortunate but proper consequence for the actions of this particular individual.

In the end, this website is Bill's property.  He and the other moderators have the absolute right to ban anyone or delete any posts for whatever reason that they see fit.  That's the reality... and people seem quick to forget that.

Fortunately for all of us, he and the other moderators have given a great deal of latitude in what is posted here... FAR beyond what is often allowed on other forums I have participated in.

As was already stated here, you'd have to try really really hard to get banned from this particular forum.

This was the last place on the block for this indiviual and I for one am glad that Bill finnally pulled the plug on this person. My children give me enough defensive banter without having to come to this site and read it. Hogwash, it was simply, Hogwash ;)

Jack,

When a person has a "History", it only seems fit. Besides that, I have had several veteran members in this board PM me - requesting that person be removed from this site permanently. And I passed on the info to Bill as well.

I agree with what EK wrote. And I will support the President to the end.

Knowing Bill for a long time now, I've tried to piss him off repeatedly and always failed....(perhaps a pig's head inside his kayak's hatch might change that  :smt077 ) ....I can't even get him to say "fxxk" or "shxt". Truly a gentleman and a scholar (geek) and a great friend....... :smt058

IMHO

This site has demonstrated complete posting latitude and access with only this one exception.  (Besides the obvious commercial postings that are removed quickly)

Bill locked the original post, so I will make my expression of support here, on this post.

GOOD JOB BILL!  THANK YOU!

I know it was a difficult decision, and the amount of time and number of spurious posts by skgreen is demonstration of your incredible tolerance.

Bottom line, she may be a kayaker, but she really wasn't any sort of angler, despite her repeated protests to the contrary. Not that there is any sort of requirement one be either to post on this board, but after all, it IS a kayak fishing board....Every one of her posts increasingly appeared to be attempts at generating needless controversy.

Kind of like that obnoxious kid that sits at your lunch table.  You don't mind for the first week, but when they continue to purposely pick their nose while you are trying to eat your PB and J, and you have repeatedly asked them to stop.....well, the simple thing is separate yourself from that person.

Who knows really what the motivation was for her continued posting, whether pathological or commercial, but sometimes you just have to call it.

Like, if you are fishing in one spot for a few hours without a hit, the smart thing to do is MOVE.

She proved to be a pest that brought nothing to the board and generated continual irritation and headaches for the admin of the board. That's enough for me, for sure.

Ultimately, this board is a private function, not a public one, hence the use of passwords for posting.  Implicit in the password access is the admin's right, even responsibility, to trim the dead or infected wood.  The registration disclaimer does not mention continual idiocy as a salient banning factor, but it could be easily added and I think it is also implicit in the nature of a password-protected forum.

Let me add that, to my knowledge, Bill did not establish this board without forethought.  He knew it would take time and atention that could adversly affect his family and fishing time.  It's no surprise to me that he says, finally, that enough is enough!

My only surprise is that it took this long to do so, which is an absolute testament to Bill's tolerance of diversity (though I hate using the word with all the resonance these days.  I work at UCSC  LOL),  and towards freedom of expression.

Remember, Bill is an individual and he has freedom of expression as well.  This group reflects that freedom of expression that he has extended to us.  How long and how much he decides to tolerate is entirely up to him..  If he is way off-base, we will let him know. and people will no longer frequent this board.  That would be his consequence.

I think it safe to predict that few if any, will resign the board in protest.

It was a sad situation all around & I'm glad it's over.
I'll admit I "lurked" on much of this thing. I had to keep telling myself "don't post to that, don't post to that".
As much of a bummer as it is to see this happen here, with that person's last post saying what it said, I do feel Bill was right.

I just switched from a firm that restricted internet usage to 60 daily minutes of internet quota time and keylogging.  :smt109  I TOTALLY know what you mean now that the IP handcuffs are off (but hopefully my new managing partners dont...)___

Kudos to Bill for your incredible patience and perserverance. You made a tough but, I believe necessary, call on this one. Now let's all get back to the madness!
