Try the following:

Trap Rig

1. A sliding sinker weight (depends on drift) but a 3 to 8 oz. then tie a snap to the end.

2. A length of approx. 3' to 4' of florocarbon say 20lb. with a swival of equal size to your snap.

3. At other end of 3' to 4' line tie about a #2 bait hook around 8" from tag end.

5. Then at the tag end tie a treble hook of the same size.

Both hooks should be around 5" apart where you can attach a whole squid or sardine. With sardine or anchovie I will tie them on with elastic thread.
When fishing with Scallen or myself the first catch should be shared with us for passing it on ;)

Do yourself a favor and read the regulations available at the Department of Fish & Game website.  Or pick up a copy of the regs at your local fishing store.  You'll learn a lot more that way, and avoid asking a bunch of questions that you could easily find yourself.

Not that the NCKAer's mind answering questions.  :smt001

Artificials -

Plastics: Swimbaits (I like 7" versions), scampi (I don't like them but they work), Bills magic baits ( killers!  :smt002)

Irons: Megabaits, diamond jigs

On the irons replace the hooks with light brass trebles or single siwash hooks to reduce the chance of losing gear. Losing gear is just part of the RF game though.

Curious ... why don't you like scampi's?  I'm going to pour some of "Polepole's Magic Scampi's" this winter!!!   :smt002

2 hooks max and if you choose to chase butts with rockfish on board you must adhere to the rockfish regulations, same for salmon. Depth restricted to 240' or less, 2 lings at 24 inches (do not count toward your 10 fish RCG complex catch), 1 cabezone min length of 15" (does count toward your RCG complex count), bocacio = 1 south of mendo, 2 above min size limit 10", 2 greenling min size 12".   If you use a small rockfish for bait it counts toward your 10 fish limit.  Beware of emergency closures(oct 1) and mpa protected areas (9/22 I believe) . No yellow eye,  canary or cowcod retention, print out the chart at the dfg website if you can't readily identify local fish.

I don't like scampi's as much as my magical curly tail. You know it rocks, you have witnessed it's power  :smt003

Scampi's tails are hard to pour as well.

So, what are the chances of picking up one of Bill's Magical Curly-Tail Lures when I pick up my new Wheeleez cart?

Scampi's tails are hard to pour as well.

I will admit your magic tail does well when mated with my magic hex bar.   :smt004

But I can't rightly pour something similar to your creations.  I must seek enlightenment along my own path.
