Hi, folks,
I am Yuanyuan from South Bay. I used to do surf fishing, I also like fishing on charter boats.  I just found this forum a few days ago and appreciate people sharing suggestions and experiences.
I am new to Kayak fishing, I just bought a Hobie Outback and brought it out a few times to nearby reservoirs and to HBM harbor. I have bought PPEs and gears based on recommendations from Die Hard Fishing, MooMoo, and Split Milt Production, etc. My wife joked with me that I enjoy buying stuff for kayak fishing more than fishing itself.
I plan to go to HMB or SC for my first in-shore kayak fishing soon, the swells in HMB is very light these days. Any suggestions on how to get started on the in-shore fishing? I also like to find some people to go out together, is there a Facebook or WhatsApp group so we can chat and connect?
  Thanks and tight lines.

Hi Yuanyuan,
Welcome.... check out the hookup section of this www site.  Until you have 10 posts you are stuck in the non members section but after that you can get into the members hookup section which is where many of us meet up for fishing hookups.

I see you have been to HMB which is about as easy to use area in the ocean as anyplace.... free launch and parking and I hear they catch Salmon out a bit.... I have been twice there but no luck yet.

I am thinking about trying there Thur morning but can only be tentative at this point.
If you go out of the marina (harbor) you really need to get a maritime radio if you do not have one already..... great for meet ups but absolutely a lifesaver in an emergency which unfortunately do happen.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome!

Hi, Troy, thanks for the suggestions, I didn't know there is a hookup section, must be very useful.
I went to HMB last saturday, first time kayaking in the harbor, I used the boat ramp, very convinient, but it may scratch the bottom of Kayak when launching, maybe that's why I see a lot videos people launch on the nearby beach.
I do have the Standard Horizon VHF radio and learned the basic operations, haven't tried it on water though:(
I need to work on weekdays, can not join you, hope you will have fun. BTW, Windy app shows the swell on Tuesday and Wed are much smaller than Thursday.

Hey youanyuan, Welcome to NCKA. You should launch at the the kayak shop. Super easy on the sandy mud. Plenty of parking too.

Welcome to the madness  :smt003  Buying fishing stuff is fun for sure!  :smt003  Sounds like you could use some wheels to make reaching the water easier.  Keep posting so you get to the members only hookups, and then boom you will see lots more reports and hookups.  There is a fishing tournament in a few weeks in Monterey if you are interested in seeing a LOT of kayakers and what they catch.

Hi Yuanyuan, Welcome to NCKA. Like others said utilize the hook-up section and don't hesitate to post a hook-up yourself.

I bought the Hobie cart and have used it on several boat ramps. but I have not take the surf lessons so I would like to limit myself to ramp launches to get familiar with all my stuff and the waves:) I am planning to go to SC harbor this weekend, it will be my first time in the ocean, I will watch the safety tips again before I go. I will stay not very far from shore, hope I can catch something. I am also worried about the sharks. Beside this, Anything specific I need to watch for?

I think you see a lot of people launching off the beach in HMB because it's free and fee parking  :smt002  It's also more convenient to me, no lines to wait in.
